Bipartisan Group Attempts to Empower ATF to Regulate Bump Stocks

It seems the anti-gun, anti-human, anti-liberty crowd is not done trying to get the most out of the Las Vegas tragedy. A few Congress members, from both the D side and the R side of the trough, have decided that the first bite, the incredibly broadly, vaguely written House Bill 3999, was too much, so let’s try to take another pass at this with a narrower target, specifically targeting bump stocks.

Their latest scheme is to create registration for bump stocks, registration that will add another $200 to the purchase of bump stocks. The registration would be applied retroactively. The bill is called the “Closing the Bump Stock Loophole Act,” despite the fact that the Bump stock, and similar devices, is not a loop hole. But never mind that, don’t let facts get in the way of a good anti-gun bill.

The sponsors of this bill include on the D side of the House trough, Dan Kildee and Dina Titus. On the R side of the trough we have Dave Trott and Brian Fitzpatrick.

The guy taking the lead on this festering pile of anti-human filth is the D guy, Dan Kildee, who made this statement, “I understand that there’s this tension between whether or not the ATF has this authority to regulate these things or not. My view on this is Congress can end that conversation simply by passing legislation that makes it clear. If there’s any debate whatsoever about whether or not these things are already regulated under the law or theoretically could be considered to be regulated under the law, well let’s take that question away.”

Let me De-Gov that statement, or, to put it more frankly, carve out the BS and give it to you in simpler language:

So we tried to do the ATF regulation thing because that would be the easiest way to deprive people of their right to self-defense and HOPEFULLY open the door to a whole crapload of other regulations that we could have done had the bump stock regulated by the ATF worked out. So, since we can’t do that, we have to actually visibly come after these people’s guns and their gun modifications. This sucks, we definitely prefer to do it in the nameless, faceless, unaccountable way, using regulations, but man, we just CAN’T let a good tragedy go completely to waste here. We have a golden opportunity to chip away at the right to self-defense and we mean to take it.

If you want further proof that these anti-human, anti-gun, anti-liberty jack-booting authoritarians are doing anything other than attempting to further tilt the scales of power away from individuals and free associations and towards the coercive enterprise, then take in this fact; this 4-person gang of hate got their consultation from 400 current and former ATF agents.

The ATF is the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms. They almost exclusively exist to punish people, cage them, for committing victimless “crimes,” for buying, selling, possessing, ingesting material that the coercive enterprise has deemed “illegal,” so if any agency would favor further precedents that march us towards disarming the non-governmental population, it would be these guys.

Fortunately, the prognosis of this bill seeing any serious action is not high, but then again, with Congress, you never know when you go to sleep and wake up to find something was slipped into a completely unrelated bill in a midnight vote.

Here is part of the text of the bill:

this section shall take effect on the date of the en-
22
