Bill Maher: ‘Political correctness is a cancer on progressivism’

HBO host Bill Maher told CNN’s Chris Cuomo on Monday that while he aligns with Democrats because Donald Trump is president, he believes the political correctness within the party goes too far.

“They have some things to answer for,” Maher began. “They don’t help themselves a lot and a lot of this far-left political correctness is a cancer on progressivism.”

“When you talk to Trump supporters, they’re not blind to his myriad flaws, but they always say is, ‘He’s not politically correct.’ I don’t think you can overestimate how much people have been choking on political correctness and hate it,” Maher continued.

“There were two studies about this recently. It was in the New York Times, front page story a few months ago. It was also in the Atlantic about a year ago. The vast majority of liberals in this country hate it. They think political correctness has gone way too far. No one likes to be living on eggshells,” he said.

Maher has been a stanch critic of political correctness for years, even hosting a show called “Politically Incorrect” until 2002. His outspokenness on the issue, along with his views on Islam, have often ruffled feathers.
