Battle of the Smartphones Ends in Bloodshed

You know, there are some beliefs that are so closely held that if you mess with that basic tenet, you’re asking to get your butt kicked.

It’s those things that weave together to create the very fabric of your life. Vital personal matters like religion. Personal positions like political views. Closely held convictions like which kind of cell phone is better.

What? You think I just stuck that last thing in there?

Nope. This is today’s American, folks.

Apparently, it’s safer to criticize someone’s mother than their choice of smartphone, as two men in Tulsa, Oklahoma discovered last week. (Although any application of the word “smart” in this article is a bit misleading.)

Jiaro Mendez and Elias Acevedo were outside of their apartment building at about 1 o’clock in the morning when the discussion moved to smartphones. One of the men, it seems, was quite fond of his Apple iPhone, while the other man was devoted to his Android. So passionate were they about their personal handheld technology devices that the argument escalated. And by escalated, I mean that hospitalization occurred.

So great was his rage that Acevedo is alleged to have struck Mendez right upside the head with a beer bottle. A fight broke out and both men were stabbed with broken beer bottles in an epic battle to defend the honor of his device.

Blood was shed, police were called, and arrests were made.

Now, Acevedo has been charged with felony assault with a deadly weapon, while Mendez awaits deportation.

No word on which phone was actually determined to be better.
