The Islamic State have aired a video reportedly showing the beheading of Briton Alan Henning. Although the UK foreign office is trying to verify the video David Cameron released a statement saying:
“The brutal murder of Alan Henning by Isil [IS] shows how barbaric and repulsive these terrorists are…
“We will do all we can to hunt down these murderers and bring them to justice.”
He said his thoughts were with the family of Mr Henning, who had gone to Syria to “help people of all faiths in their hour of need”.
Henning, a former taxi driver and aid volunteer from Salford, was delivering aid to Syria, as he had done of previous occasions, when he was kidnapped. IS had threatened to kill him on the video showing the death of fellow Brit David Haines last month.
The footage of Hennings execution ends with a former US soldier being paraded in front of the camera. The American is thought to be Peter Kassig who had returned to the area as a charity worker after leaving the army. He fought in Iraq in 2007. Hennings executioner named Kassig as the next victim.
