Another person has died of the novel coronavirus (NCoV) that has now killed nine of the 13 people suffering from it. The World Health Organization confirmed the death of the 39 year old occurred in Saudi Arabia. He developed the symptoms of the virus at the end of February and died on March 2nd.

The first alert from the WHO was issued in September 2012 after the virus infected a man who had visited Saudi Arabia, he died in the UK.

The WHO statement said:

“Preliminary investigation indicated that the patient had no contact with previously reported cases of NCoV infection, other potential exposures are under investigation. The WHO is monitoring the situation closely and urged its member states to continue surveillance for severe acute respiratory infections and to carefully review any unusual patterns.  The WHO is currently working with international experts and countries where cases have been reported to assess the situation and review recommendations for surveillance and monitoring,”

Research by scientists in Europe has found that NCoV is well adapted to infecting humans and may be treatable with medicines similar to the ones used for SARs though at this point in time there is no treatment for the condition.
