Amazing Nacreous Clouds Over Tierra Del Fuego

These clouds, also known as “mother of pearl clouds,” form in the stratosphere far above the usual realm of weather.

Todays sunspot number is a low 68. Sunspot AR1800 has the energy for M-class flares but is sitting quietly on the eastern limb. If it did flare it is not squarely earth-facing. NOAA estimates the chance of an M-class flare at 10% over the next 24 hours and 0.1% for an X-class over the same period. There are currently no coronal holes on the Earth side of the Sun.

Gerardo Connon of Rio Grande City took this amazing picture of nacreous clouds on July 24th. Also known as ‘mother of pearl clouds’ they form in the stratosphere and are usually only seen in the high north.

You can see why the ancients thought the skies were home to the Gods.
