Amanda Knox faces Italy retrial over Kercher murder

American Amanda Knox and her ex-boyfriend Raffaele Sollecito must face a retrial over the killing in 2007 of her UK flatmate, Meredith Kercher, Italy’s highest court has ruled.

After spending four years in prison and getting acquitted at appeal on the grounds of flawed forensic evidence Amanda Knox, and her ex boyfriend Raffaele Sollecito are to be retried for murder.

Meredith Kercher a British student and housemate of Knox died after having her throat cut at the house she and Knox shared. The murder, in November 2007 saw Rudy Guede convicted and sentenced to 16 years in prison for his part in the killing. Knox was later sentenced to 26 years imprisonment and Sollecito to 25 years.

Under Italian law Knox cannot be forced to return for the trial. The can however apply for extradition if she is found guilty.
