Airport Reopens After “Bad Joke” Bomb Scare
Ted Stevens International Airport, in Anchorage Alaska, reopened at approximately 3 am, after a “bad joke” about a bomb in some checked luggage.
Shortly after midnight, a male passenger made reference to a bomb in checked baggage at Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport.
The main terminal was immediately evacuated as FBI and TSA agents, as well as local police swept the facility for explosives. All luggage has been searched. No bombs have been found at this point but outgoing flights still have not been released as the investigation continues, according to airport manager John Parrot. Three male suspects were interviewed regarding the incident. “We don’t know if this is a credible threat. That’s what the interviews will help us determine,” Parrott said.
The airport reopened at approximately 3 am, after no explosives were found and officials ascertained the comment was “a bad joke”. The jokester is in custody and Parrott reported that he expects state charges and possibly federal charges to be filed against the man, and has referred all further questions to the prosecutor.
