A Taser in a Draw Gets Crook a Higher Sentence Than Dealing Class A Drugs

Wesley Walters was arrested in Southampton UK in September last year. Police went to his home after he twice sold heroin to undercover police officers. It was during a search of his home, looking for more drugs, that the police found a stun gun that looked like a mobile phone, in the back of a draw.

Walters has just had his day in court, he was jailed for three and a half years for dealing and supplying heroin. Okay, I can see that.

He was jailed for FIVE years for possession of the stun gun.

This is insane.

He gets longer for possession of a stun gun than for dealing and distributing a class A drug.

The five years wasn’t handed out because this man was a hardened criminal. You and I would face the same sentence for having such a weapon in our possession.

Knives, guns, stun guns and even mace and pepper spray are banned in the UK and having them in your possession gets you a mandatory prison sentence.

We are denied the right to defend ourselves regardless of the circumstances. This is a parody. Those with the intention to rob, maim and kill already have weapons, it’s the law abiding citizens that do not.

Day after day, week after week the news is full of armed assaults. Armed assaults that I truly believe would reduce in number if the attackers thought their victims may be armed, and were able to fight back.

We, like the US, have had massacres. Hungerford, Dunblane and Cumbria, but one psychopath with weapons should not mean that the rest of us should be left at the mercy of the criminals and gangs in this country who are becoming increasingly well armed.

My neighbour has a shotgun. He shoots clay pigeons with a local club. He was on holiday when his gun licence ran out. The police turned up ONE DAY after its expiry and quizzed his son because they wanted to take the gun away. They couldn’t, it was locked in a gun cabinet that is bolted to the floor and the neighbour had the key on him in Spain.

The point is the police target the legal owners, those who shoot for sport, whilst ignoring those who illegally own weapons unless they happen to come across them during routine arrests and searches.

Sadly few in this country have the backbone or balls to challenge the legislation that makes it illegal to defend ourselves. It’s the ambiguity of the law here that makes me foam at the mouth. I HAVE TO LIE in order NOT to be prosecuted.

I can’t admit I own a baseball bat in order that I can beat, or attempt to beat, the living shit out of someone who invades my home. I can be prosecuted for that.

I’m 53, 5ft 2 inches tall. I have arthritis, I am not as fast on my feet as I once was. In fact, some days just getting up the stairs is a painful and protracted experience. Other days I can move around with no more than mild discomfort. I am, in the eyes of some, a perfect target. I can see why they would think that. Well they can think again.

My attitude to life, as many of you may have gathered is rather different to many people of my age with a disability. I have upper body strength, a brain, and I know how to use both. I do not live in fear of the criminals or in fear of the law.

I am willing to stand my ground and stand up in court if need be and explain why the police arrived to find a corpse at the bottom of the stairs.

Sadly this is not the case for most people in the UK. Those of a certain age and older live in fear in their own homes. They fear the break-ins, the assaults that happen daily .

The regular news bulletins telling us that another senior citizen has been beaten to death in their own homes, pictures of battered and brutalized elderly people lying in hospital beds  break your heart.

But nobody does anything.

This wave of aggression is spreading, moving from the young thugs that hang around on street corners to the suburban mommies on the school run.

This morning I was treated to a foul mouthed tirade of abuse by another parent when dropping my daughter off at school. She had blocked the road so I pulled onto a grass verge in order that Shortie was not late for school. For whatever reason this incensed her.

This was a minor incident, but it highlights that people do not expect to be challenged, they expect to say and do as they will with impunity. They continue to bully and intimidate because nobody answers back.

We have been brainwashed by our own government to believe that there’s a nice polite work out you differences kind of answer to everything. Well there isn’t. The thugs and the bullies grow stronger as the majority grow weaker because they won’t rise to the challenge and say enough is enough.

We have a right to be heard. we have a right to defend ourselves, and I will exercise that right if I feel that me or mine are in danger, regardless of what the law threatens me with.

When Charles Dickens said ” The law is an ass ” he was wrong. The ass has far more common sense.
