At least 65 rioters were arrested last night near Union Square in Midtown Manhattan attempting to protest the election of Donald Trump as president. Most of the rioters were arrested outside of Trump International Hotel & Tower, where people were climbing light poles and burning flags.

Many who were arrested were charged with disorderly conduct, and a few were charged with resisting arrest. Fifth Avenue was re-opened early Thursday morning after many of the rioters had cleared out.

Another group gathered at Columbus Circle and a few dozen people still remain at Trump Tower.

On Wednesday evening, thousands had appeared at Union Square to march 40 blocks to Trump Tower. “Donald Trump go away, racist, sexist, anti-gay,” the crowd chanted.

It is not clear what these so-called protesters plan to solve by their demonstration of loud yelling combined with criminal behavior. Most understand that Trump is the president-elect and that their demonstration will do nothing to change that.

“He did win the electoral vote that is a fact. I do believe, however, that the majority of Americans do not want this man to be president of the United States,” said one demonstrator.
