NOAA estimates a 60% chance of polar geomagnetic storms on June 9th when a CME is expected to deliver a glancing blow to Earth’s magnetic field. High-latitude sky watchers should be alert for auroras.

Todays sunspot number is an incredibly low 27. We are nearing solar maximum and would expect the sunspot numbers to be much,much higher than this. NASA have made no comment so far except to say that cycle 24 is producing much lower sunspot numbers that any previous cycle during the last 100 years.

There have been some stunning noctilucent cloud displays around the world and NASA have produced a video explaining the phenomenon.
