6 Dead, Including Gunman, in Shooting at Molson Coors Brewing Co. in Milwaukee

Six people were killed, including the gunman, in a workplace shooting Wednesday at Molson Coors Brewing Co. in Milwaukee, police confirmed.

Police said the gunman is a 51-year-old Milwaukee man who died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The identities of those who passed away will be released at a later time, Police Chief Alfonso Morales said.

No other individuals were reported injured in the shooting.

According to a senior law enforcement official briefed on the situation, the gunman was an employee who was recently fired from the facility returned to the scene in the 4000 block of West State Street in Milwaukee and opened fire.

“This is an unspeakable tragedy for our city,” Mayor Tom Barrett said. “This is a community tragedy. There were five individuals who went to work today, just like we all go to work. They thought they were going to work and then would return to their families. They didn’t, and they tragically never will.”

In a press availability at the White House, President Donald Trump expressed his condolences for the families, calling the shooting a “terrible thing.”

“Earlier today a wicked murderer opened fire at a Molson Coors plant, taking the lives of five people,” he said. “It’s a terrible thing, and our hearts go out to the people of Wisconsin.”

More than 1,000 people were working at the campus, comprised of corporate offices and two breweries, when police began receiving reports of a shooting about 2:08 p.m. (local time), Morales said.

About 10 minutes later, employees began receiving texts and emails from the company warning them about an active shooter, according to texts.

None of the victims had been named as of Wednesday night. Hours after the shooting, police said, many employees were still inside the complex as officers continued searching through the complex and “identify who is missing.”

Police said there’s no active threat at the complex and they have not discussed a possible motive.

The corporate offices will be closed for the rest of the week and the breweries will remain closed for the time being, Hattersley said.

“There are no words to express the deep sadness many of us are feeling right now. I am on my way to Milwaukee now because in the hours and days ahead, the most important thing is that we support and care for each other,” the CEO said.
