Our children live in such a drastically different world compared to what we grew up in. Dangers seem to be around every corner, and the Internet has invited some of those dangers into our homes and our children’s bedrooms. It is imperative to teach your children at an early age about the dangers and security risks that are present in cyberspace, as well as the manipulation tactics that Internet users use to prey upon the innocent.

Cyber safety needs a whole-community approach in order to get to the heart of the matter. Some ways we could do this include:

  • Connect with your local school and library to find out their Internet safety protocols.
  • Gain a better insight into how each generation uses technology.
  • Improve your digital literacy, and
  • Develop a shared understanding of what it means to ‘connect with respect’.
