YouGov Poll: 29% of Americans Would Support a Military Coup

Our grid depends on this mineral

us army marching

As it stands today, our government is a constitutional republic in name only. Our nation is ruled by wealthy oligarchs and special interests, and there is plenty of blame to go around for this situation. No society falls to these depths without at least the implicit consent of the population, and even the most ruthless of governments can’t survive if its citizens refuse to go along with the program.

So it’s safe to say that the American people are at least partly to blame for the sick institutions that rule over them. And if that’s the case, you have to ask yourself, what might our society come to accept in the future? If our lack of resistance has contributed to the corrosion of our civil liberties and the growth of our unbounded government, then nothing is off the table. If we’re willing to put up with this, what won’t we put up with? What sort of system might our society produce in the future?

If recent polls are to be believed, then a military dictatorship is certainly a possibility. After a West Point professor entertained the possibility of a coup occurring on American soil two weeks ago, (which led to his resignation) YouGov decided to poll 1000 American voters on their opinion of the military, and whether or not they would support a military takeover. The results were fairly shocking.

In a new survey by YouGov, 29 percent of respondents said they can imagine a situation in which they would support the military taking control of the federal government – that translates into over 70 million American adults. Forty-one percent of respondents said could not imagine supporting the military taking over the country.

Republicans (43 percent) were more likely to say they can envision a scenario in which they could support a military coup than Democrats (20 percent). Perhaps that difference is related to having a Democratic president who some critics on the right see as overstepping his power.

Regardless of political ideology, one reason people might support a military coup is because they respect officers in the military far more than they do people in Congress. According to the same YouGov survey, almost three-quarters (70 percent) of respondents believe that military officers want what is best for the country, while only 29 percent think the same of members of Congress.

Lawmakers better shape up or they might be shipped out — literally.

The poll also found that 55% of the population believes that the police want what’s best for the country, while 24% thought that they were only interested in what’s best for themselves. The other categories, which included Congress, local politicians, and civil servants, went in the other direction. The majority of those polled thought that the people in these categories were self-serving.

In other words, most Americans have a lot of confidence in the armed enforcers of government, but very little confidence in the politicians and bureaucrats in our government. This is a rather dangerous trend when you think about it, but it’s not exactly a new one.

Every year gallup asks Americans about their confidence with 15 major segments of American society. The police and the military routinely top the list with overwhelming support, while no other government institution inspires confidence among the majority of voters. That includes the presidency, the Supreme Court, public schools, the justice system, and Congress. Also near the bottom, is the media, big business, and the banks.

Essentially, most Americans have completely lost faith in the system, and the powers that be. The only people they still trust, are cops and soldiers.  And a society that trusts its armed enforcers more than everyone else, including the people they vote for, is a society that is ripe for a coup.

You do know almost half were lawyers/jurists… right..?

          • Jack Frost

Sure alot were, But most of them would work a plow or spend all day in a field with the sweat running down the crack of their arse supervising (slaves AND indentured servants) if needed……regular people…………..not the candy arse entitlement oriented legal professionals today……

And yes, most lost nearly all they owned and most if not all their pre war fortunes……………got any of the jurist or lawyer’s today willing to do that AND once their term was over would go back to regular jobs and profession, not making a fortune & career out of politics?

          • http://privacy.com MARCUS

actually, no, many didn’t work a plow or spend all day in a field. Most (including the lawyers) were very wealthy industrialists, traders, and landowners. Nothing wrong with that, either. I think we both agree though, character is considerably more important than profession. What I don’t want to see is that we would have to throw out the remaining proper constitutional lawyers along with the ambulance chasers and disability claims firms. Until regular people get a serious grasp on natural and constitutional law (which they wont since its football season), I’m not so sure that’s a wise move.

what part about “All ENEMY”S both foreign & DOMESTIC ” does someone not understand.

      • http://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/political_reading_room/ disqus_3BrONUAJno

Any of it, if they’ve taken a military oath.
Treason is defined in the Constitution at Article 3, Section 3, as consisting “only in levying War against (the United States), or in adhering to their Enemies, giving them Aid and Comfort.”
All members of the American military take an oath to “support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; (and to) bear true faith and allegiance to the same.”
When the military is committed to foreign actions without a declaration of war by Congress, as required by Article 1, Section 8, Paragraph 11 of the Constitution, that is a violation of the Constitution, arguably the action of domestic enemies.
When a member of the military participates in an unconstitutional foreign military deployment, s/he violates both the Constitution and his/her oath to “support and defend” it, giving “aid and comfort” to it’s “domestic enemies,” committing treason by the definition given by the Constitution.

The militia was never meant to be revolutionaries, just the well-regulated preventative for the paramilitary groups that are currently terrorizing us. If we had exercised the requisite efforts to keep the well-regulated militia, we still wouldn’t need anything besides the only constitutional military force, the navy, to protect us from a world that we weren’t putting most of our military expenditures into attacking and occupying.
If the marines were as dedicated to being faithful to their oaths to protect and defend the Constitution, they wouldn’t appear to be nothing but the pre-eminent band of treasonous mercenaries they currently are.

Sorry shitferbrains, it doesn’t take “guts” to take automatic weapons and tanks to another country and terrorize illiterate goatherders armed with 30 year old Kalashnikovs and home-made bombs – people who have never and lack the capacity to ever attack Americans that aren’t criminally invading their countries.
Iraq and Afghganistan are undeclared – therefore, UnConstitutional, illegal, and treasonous wars – anyone who goes to either country withouy arresting or executing the jackoff passing the orders is a fucking coward who has betrayed hos oath – if he actually swore said oath in good faith – the only yellow streak is the piss running down his leg.
There’s nothing “manly” about groping women and children at gunpoint as they pass through your criminal checkpoints – perverted, absolutely – sick and twisted, without a single doubt in the world. – but as far from manly as you are from educated.

Ooooo. . . how brave to fake defend people from fake threats. . . fucking shitbird.

I’m what used to be called a “patriot,” back before mindless fuckwits started redefining words to fit their agendas.
As in; ‘The highest patriotism is not a blind acceptance of official policy, but a love of one’s country deep enough to call her to a higher standard.’ ~ George McGovern

So. . . when was the last time YOU called your country to a higher standard rather than blindly accepting what you were brainwashed to accept?

I get one of two reactions to my “treason and traitors” essay. The majority, after thinking it over admit that they did commit treason but plead innocent by reason of ignorance, and I thank them for their veracity. The others get angry because they don’t have the intellectual courage and integrity to admit when they are wrong, and commit ad hominem in order to attempt to avoid appearing what they are.
Semper Fi is short for semper fidelis which means “always faithful” in Latin, something most marines know as little of as they do the Constitution that they take an oath to “protect and defend,” even though most of them lack the courage to resist the lies they serve.

What we really need is for bubba to drag his lazy ass off the couch, turn off the television, and reconstitute the well-regulated militia so that it can get back to work, beginning with an intensive (re)education program to bring the citizenry back into the level of knowledge that would have prevented the reality of what Thomas Jefferson predicted at the close of the revolution: “The spirit of the times may alter, will alter. Our rulers will become corrupt, our people careless. A single zealot may become persecutor, and better men be his victims. It can never be too often repeated that the time for fixing every essential right, on a legal basis, is while our rulers are honest, ourselves united. From the conclusion of this war we shall be going down hill. It will not then be necessary to resort every moment to the people for support. They will be forgotten, therefore, and their rights disregarded. They will forget themselves in the sole faculty of making money, and will never think of uniting to effect a due respect for their rights. The shackles, therefore, which shall not be knocked off at the conclusion of this war, will be heavier and heavier, till our rights shall revive or expire in a convulsion.”

Yes he is a mulsim, whatever the hell that is!

          • http://www.shitsenders.com Я0llyJ0g3r

No he is not. Watch the link I posted + read the info beneath the video. His wife isn’t female, he isn’t heterosexual, and he is not a muslim, contrary to popular belief.
If you research into this you will find out a lot of things “they” do not want you knowing about.

          • dave

            I said he’s a ‘mulsim’ ; I didn’t say he’s a muslim. And I have no idea what a mulsim is!

Oh, sorry, did not realize I was talking to a grammar/spelling cop. Arrest me for I am guilty!
**thanks for keeping these comments safe, officer 😉

The left, and right puppets will be whatever the masses want. For public relations only are they Christians, but their deeds reveal them as Satanic scums.

Obama: “We are no longer a Christian Nation”

Obama seemed to relate the Christians, murderers, sodomites, and diverse religions.

That’s good public relations, and that’s how presidents, and leaders appeal to certain sects of people.

Beings Americans are mostly Christians, then it makes reasonable since that the deceivers would claim to be Christian if it suits them.

You have a lot of faith in humanity to assume once a coup has been accomplished, military leaders will be content to eventually relinquish that power. Remember, at no time in history has a democracy ever fallen and not been replaced by a dictatorship.

      • http://www.shitsenders.com Я0llyJ0g3r

It is almost as if human nature never changes… whowouldathunkit?

        • http://privacy.com MARCUS

I seem to remember some quote about being “doomed to repeat” history. what was that again..? 😉

  • Gearmoe

I can see why people want to see the best in our military. In fact it feels unpatriotic not too. But if the military would come to power, what is the chances they’d ever fully relinquish the control. And that said, would our Country ever be the same again. No.

It is time to start new Christian nations inside the USA just like the founding fathers had to do because their own countrymen were burning them at the stake. Read more at jcbooks.org

Each colony was its own state, and became its own country under the Constitution, which was the replacement for the Articles of Confederation, which is what this union has always been.

I believe that those 29% will see their desires coming true with President Obama. I feel his plan is just that- a hostile takeover of the government and the people. He has been planning this ever since he was voted in and he will not leave in 2017.

    • http://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/political_reading_room/ disqus_3BrONUAJno

He has been organizing for this since he was first recruited by his mentors.

  • AugUst

thats what needs to happen because now the USA will get nuke in 2016
did you all relay think that turd in the W.H was planing on leaving

Iran finds unexpectedly high uranium reserve after nuke deal and look at Russia in Syria Mar 26, 2012 – Obama then elaborated: “This is my last election. … It is the second time in six months that Obama has been caught unawares on microphone.Barack Obama: I’ll have more flexibility to after the election

THE WRATH OF THE AWAKENED SAXON
    by Rudyard Kipling

It was not part of their blood,
It came to them very late,
With long arrears to make good,
When the Saxon began to hate.

    They were not easily moved,
They were icy — willing to wait
Till every count should be proved,
Ere the Saxon began to hate.

Their voices were even and low.
Their eyes were level and straight.
There was neither sign nor show
When the Saxon began to hate.

It was not preached to the crowd.
It was not taught by the state.
    No man spoke it aloud
When the Saxon began to hate.

    It was not suddently bred.
    It will not swiftly abate.
    Through the chilled years ahead,
When Time shall count from the date
That the Saxon began to hate.

Oh I love Kipling! But my personal fave is “Gods of the Copybook Headings”…and “White Man’s Burden”.

    What is the current coup?

  • Mr Gadget

It’s a pretty scary thought to be placed into the position of having to trust the military, when the military industrial complex is a main source of our problems. We slept and government has been conquered. How else could you roundup and remove the large number of corrupt treasonous monsters that have conquered our government. No election can repair the damage, so trust/hope that it would be military patriots and not the military industrial complex to take over and have fresh elections, or civil war, or succession of states, or, or?
What a mess America has become!

  • Sailor Uranus

I don’t buy this rubbish because most people do not trust the military industrial complex because they have a bad track record of abusing power and with that in mind no one in their right mind wants martial law..

  • JackP32

I have to admit that I have a helluva lot more respect for military officers than I do members of Congress. If asked, a survey would probably show that well over 50% of the population feel the same way.

    • rich

I could not agree more. What the heck has most members of Congress ever done other than rip people off. Military officers more than likely have done something worthwhile or they wouldn’t have gotten as far as they did.

  • carmenva

I would say that it maybe much higher then 29%.

  • whydowanttoknow

I have my doubts on the results of this survey, no one asked me to vote. I am for a government smackdown.

  • Jesse Jacksonn

The EXTERMINATION of NI^GERS and LIBERALS WOULD BE A GOOD START

    • rich

I agree for the most part but when you use the ‘n’ word that doesn’t necessarily mean black people. A nigger is a miserable person and that can be white or black. I am white myself and I know some lousy whites and lousy blacks so I can agree that getting rid of them would be a huge step forward. Just wait until Jesus returns. He will take care of all that!

      • sunshine

Do you “know a good one” (black) too?

  • Rebel w/out a Cause

As I understand the Military/Industrial Complex, are we to suppose that the military leadership is any less bought-and-paid-for than our current political leadership? I’m thinking that we might be trading one oligarchy for another…

  • http://privacy.com MARCUS

Yeah because a military dictatorship would be a smart move….

  • unbubbleslayr

A military running this country? That would be the second worst thing for this country right behind a dictatorship.

    • http://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/political_reading_room/ disqus_3BrONUAJno

And we already have the dictatorship, so it would be an improvement.

      • Nick

        Pretty much.

  • higgy01

I suspect most of the 29% are those that have had military experience. Why is it that the imposter in the WH has done everything in his power to weaken our military? He is afraid of them. He has screwed this country to the point he needs to be overthrown and thrown out along with his cadre of America hating scum.

  • Bear1000

So basically 29% of Americans would support trading one form of tyranny for another, eh? Ladies and gentlemen, dictatorship is dictatorship, be it from a civil government or a military one, and having one take over from another is not the solution. Dictatorship never leads to anything good for a country, regardless of what form it takes. George Washington knew that, which is why he never marched on the capital like some had urged him to do. Go and study Napoleon and the outcomes that came for France after his reign was over or the outcome for the Japanese when the military more or less took over their country. No my friends, the only solution to a dictatorship is a revolt by the people and for the people. Period.

  • hotcocco

Can’t come soon enough. So many changes need to be made if this Country is to survive.

  • John Barleycorn

Least we not to forget to exile the traitors who filled the graves

  • ccambridge

Corruption filters from the top down in this country. The sheeple need to demand better. After all government employees work for the earners of society.

  • Mark

The brainless gutlessness is no mere coincidence. Consider all the money and research required to perfect the weaponization of education and entertainment.

  • Bruce Prentis

    This 3%er sure does.

  • Nick

At this point if it would rid us of Obag and his “progressives” I’d consider it. However I know better than to think it would actually happen. Obama has already purged the military of anyone who would dare contemplate disobedience much less a coup.

  • Anthony Massimilla

One day they will be in a foggy Sf driving in their buddies 57 Jag when in that tiny rear mirror God approaches in a large Detroit steel piercing the fog ! When the Chrome was thick , P.s. “objects in the mirror are closer than they appear “

  • Ken

Obama did a soft coup upon America in 2008 when he stated that he would fundamentally transform the United States. He is Mao Se Dong light.Remember who his friends are: Bill Ayers and Bernadine Dorn who were the leaders of the Weather Underground who proposed a Communist takeover of the US government.
This is only the tip of the iceberg. Mao Se Dong had armies of children and young adults killing their teachers and their parents, whereas Obama, Sharpton, Eric Holder, have Black Lives Matter Shooting cops and burning down cities.Just look at the signs that B.L.A. members display on camera:
They always seem to originate from revcom.usa, a Communist organization.
Yes, Obama needs to be removed by force!

  • Jason Vickers

I’d support them removing Obama, Jarrett, and Biden from office. Along with Boehner and McConnell.
