What Is The Best Place To Live In America? Pros And Cons For All 50 States

If you could live in any state in America, where would you go? During troubled times like these, what is the best place in the United States to live? A lot of people are asking these kinds of questions these days. Our economy is on the verge of collapse, natural disasters are becoming more frequent and more intense, the U.S. population is becoming angrier and more frustrated by the day, our government has become incredibly oppressive and controlling, war could break out at any time and evidence that society is breaking down is all around us. As our world becomes increasingly unstable, many families are considering moving somewhere else. But what areas are best and what areas should be avoided? Is there really a “best place to live” in America? Well, the truth is that each family is facing a different set of circumstances. If you have a great support system where you live, it can be really tough to pick up and move 3000 miles away from that support system. If you have a great job where you live now, it can be really tough to move some place where there may be no job at all for you. But without a doubt there are some areas of the country that will be far better off than others in the event of a major economic collapse. This article will take a look at each of the 50 U.S. states and will list some of the pros and cons for moving to each one. Not all of the factors listed below will be important to you, and a few have even been thrown in for humor. But if you are thinking of moving in the near future hopefully this list will give you some food for thought. A few years ago when my wife and I were living near Washington D.C. we knew that we wanted a change and we went through this kind of a process. We literally evaluated areas from coast to coast. In the end, we found a place that is absolutely perfect for us. But different things are important to different people. And if I gave your particular state a low rating, please don’t think that I am trashing the entire state or all of the people who live there. For example, there are some absolutely wonderful people that live in the state of California, and there are some areas of California that I would not mind visiting at all. But for the times that are coming I am convinced that it is going to be a really bad place to live. Not that I have all the answers either. Hopefully this article can get some debates started, and hopefully those debates will help people that are thinking of moving to another state to be more informed. The following are some pros and cons for all 50 states…. Alabama Pros: warm weather, southern hospitality, relatively low population density Cons: hurricanes, tornadoes, crime, not enough jobs, multiple nuclear power plants, rampant poverty Overall Rating: C+ Alaska Pros: great fishing, lots of empty space, low population density, great for rugged individualists Cons: very high cost of living, earthquakes, volcanoes, extremely cold, short growing season, too much snow, potentially cut off from supplies from the lower 48 states during an emergency situation Overall Rating: B Arizona Pros: warm weather Cons: illegal immigration, wildfires, return of dust bowl conditions, not enough jobs, not enough rain, multiple nuclear power plants, crime, gang violence, Phoenix Overall Rating: D+ Arkansas Pros: southern hospitality, warm I’m not sure if you’ve ever been to Louisville, but it’s actually a pretty nice town. Kentucky is abundant in farm land,lakes,rivers and forest. Everything you’ll need if TSHTF.
No nuclear power plants either.A fairly long growing season and mild winters.
The westerners are friendly folk and the easterners are more cautious of strangers but good people all the same.
We make Borboun here, by the barrel. We make moonshine ,by the drum.
Tobacco is aplenty for all those that enjoy it.
Lots of State parks and the largest cave system in the world.
No Super Volcanos.
Our gun laws are not stringent.
We have Ron Paul’s son as one of our Senators.
We have plenty of horse,like you mentioned.
With that said, I rate my state a B+.
wyoming. Its hard to live here,cold,snow COST of things you need.Winters are tough. You get in return,low tax rate,no tax on out of state retirement, OPEN CARRY gun law’s, other than the govt indian reservations and the drug alchol people that result in the govt welfare system its OK.Moved here 3 yrs ago, and not ever going back.Energy oil gas minerals we have a tax base that is fair to all.Energy pays for the things we use Roads,schools,ect. We have counties bigger than whole states. Come here and work play and stay.If your not working its your own fault.

HAHA!!! I completely agree kos. The “Pro” & “Con” list for each state is laughable and completely derived from someone’s personal opinions. I mean, c’mon, a Con for Texas’ ranking as a survival state is thr Dallas Cowboys? What the hell does that have to do with ANYTHING???!!!
Yep. Take away air conditioning and you’re not going to find many people wanting to stay in south TX through summer. Even Austin.
Good luck finding unpolluted water in far too much the state as well.
This lifelong Texan will be exiting post-haste, if the time were to come. Heading to a nice little spot in the Ozarks.

Missouri (from a native Missourian):
Pros: good growing season, mostly mild winters, low population density (outside of metro areas), lax gun laws, low taxes on alcohol and tobacco (if you have these vices), the Ozarks, only one nuclear power plant, fairly low cost of living, not politically correct (in more rural areas), most cops are not yet brutish thugs.
Cons: St. Louis city, Kansas City, poverty (common all over the nation these days), lack of jobs in rural areas, property taxes (vehicles, real estate, livestock), poor road conditions, tornado season, bigotry, lots of white-trash hoosiers, growing numbers of entitlement-dependent leeches.
You stated “not politically correct in the more rural areas” but it is the urban areas where the politicians are and where the majority of the voters are so if THEY are politically correct, the laws they pass will be also.
A State that is flat is a con?
Why in the world is flat ground considered a con? Too easy to farm?
There is a trade off between living in areas with some sort of metropolitan hub and living out in the sticks. Being raised in Los Angeles (partly in a rural area of the county, the other living within the city limits), I can say that there are plenty of things to keep kids occupied and engaged closer to an urban setting. In small towns, there is much less to do and you have kids who get high, use drugs, drink (drunk driving by kids in rural areas can be a huge problem) and have sex to fill the otherwise boredom of daily life living in a small town.
Now, that is to say big cities do not have their share of drugs and gangs, and the problem of big city apathy that is pervasive, but small towns are just as much at risk of drugs, drinking and using sex to fill up time and life when there is little to do.
Now some kids, no matter the situation will not allow themselves to get pulled in, because of their character and won’t do drugs despite being surrounded by people who do them. But a good balance would be to live in a small town that is a half hour drive from a larger metropolitan area where you’re not living in the squalor of an urban setting and yet the kids have an opportunity to get involved in some hobby or activity that larger metropolitan areas support.
I would not live in a city no matter what obama and others say. Too much crime, plus they do not want to protect you as criminals have more rights. Too much filth and laziness. Congestion and everytime I eat out food bourne illness.
If you want to spend 2 hours driving 6 blocks or the same amount of time waiting for public.transportation this is the way to go. Slso if you work in a city very little money after city wage taxes that go to support city councils to sit on their duffaces.
You will note that CRIME is proportional to the number of “minorities” in the state/city/county.
Crime has nothing to do with race where I live buddy! I live in a 95% white county in SE Missouri. We have the second highest crime rate among the many rural counties -thanks to method. Nearly all arrests in our county are drug related – and WHITE. We were first but a few losers have left to go to a neighboring county. Probably because the sheriff there got busted selling drugs so they figure its safer to make that crap there than here.
Idaho- you forgot INEL (Idaho National Engineering Labs) more nuclear reactors on this site than any other state! Worked there- Plus side is easy power, Minus side is it in the middle of a frickin desert.
Idaho and Colorado are the One World Governments preferred states also. Colorado is new government central.
I’m willing to bet the author is from Idaho, considering that’s the only state with an A rating. Kinda like all those typical people out there that recommend something to others cause that’s what they have. I’m from Georgia and I’d rate it better than a B-. Sure, Atlanta sucks and there are way too many negros, but hey..we have plenty of farmland outside of Atlanta and plenty of country boys. And like Hank Williams Jr says…A Country Boy Can Survive.

The criteria looked at are moronic. None of it is consistantly applied across the states. Since when is the Florida Gators a factor in where one would want to live????? Or the Redskins are the only Pro to Maryland? WTF. I love how he fails to mention that Idaho (northern) is a huge white supremisist location.
And being in Reno. I can say that we do not have a huge gang problem. Yes we have some gangs, but nothing like what he implies. Besides where is a place that does not have them? I guess from this it can only be in Idaho. Neo-Nazi groups don’t count as gangs apparently.
HWho cares one state will be the same as the rest of the 3rd world states the way the country is being trashed.
All of the states will become F as soon as they fill up with blacks and ILLEGAL ALIENS and muslims! The lower the alphabet rate is also related to the welfare freebies too.
