Czech President Vaclav Klaus may want to reassess his security situation.
As Klaus, surrounded by numerous security personnel, walked through a crowd of people a man with a replica gun walked directly up to him and ‘opened fire.’ His security detail not only failed to notice the attack, but one of his body guards actually reacted with a smile once he realized what was happening.
It took the President’s body guards and local police upwards of ten minutes to locate the suspect after he casually walked away from the scene.
Prior to his arrest, the man was questioned about his actions:
I wanted to show people are mad and the government doesn’t respect the will of the people.
I pulled out the gun on the President because politicians are deaf and blind.
A Czech affiliate of news station TV Joj reports that a representative of the Office of Security for the Czech republic was quoted as saying, “in this situation it was not possible to grab the gun or react to it.”
