Want to Know Why People Need Guns?

The following video from many years ago titled “A Daughter’s Regret” shows the testimony of Suzanna Gratia Hupp whose parents were killed when a madman opened fire in a Texas cafeteria. It is a powerful reminder of how essential it is to protect the Second Amendment, not for duck hunting, as she points out, but to protect our loved ones from maniacs … and a government that would put us in such a vulnerable position.

Here is an excerpt from the video description, which adds background and context to her testimony.

It was October 1991 when an unemployed merchant seaman drove his pickup truck into a Luby’s cafeteria in Killeen, Tex., leaped out and opened fire. He killed 23 people and wounded more than 20.

Hupp and her parents were having lunch in the restaurant when the shooting started. Hupp instinctively reached into her purse for her .38-caliber Smith & Wesson, but she had left it in the car…

“Even if you choose not to have a gun, as the bad guy who ignored all the laws is getting close to you and as he levels that firearm at one of your children, don’t you hope the person next to you has chosen to carry a gun and knows how to use it?”  …

“A gun can be used to kill a family, or defend a family,” Hupp said. “I’ve lived what gun laws do. My parents died because of what gun laws do. I’m the quintessential soccer mom, and I want the right to protect my family. What happened to my parents will never happen again with my kids there.”

This womans composure is beyond admirable. I am sure her aim would have been true. So sad, so sad. Congress should hear what she tells her children as to why they have no grand parents. My deepest sympathies again, Suzanna. A very poignant post considering todays events. Piers Morgan, got the guts to interview this woman?

  • cindy

Her testimony is yet another reason to have Cwp.
no police or swat team could have gotten to the scene,in time,to save the people there.

    YOU GO GIRL!!!!!WELL SAID

  • Dave

I was there I saw the folks running out of Luby’s. Ambulances and cops running in. I ate there many times. You never expect it is gonna happen in your world. These are new and different times for us all. The chance of more mass shootings and robberies etc. are going to increase as peoples situations becomes more desperate due to the economy augering in along with the decline of social and moral fabric of the country unravelling with it. Carrying a gun for protection is a no brainer at this point going forward. Hard times are not ahead… they are upon us.

  • Steve

As I reflect on those locations that put up signs prohibiting weapons, I have to place a lot of the blame on the back of the trial lawyers and the sue happy drones that take up breathing room. I personally following this ladies view of protecting her family irregardless of the signs posted or laws enacted by yellow gutless politicians. Having carried a weapon since Vietnam in my profession, I believe just like Dave that it is a no brainer. You are the only one who can protect your family, for no matter how close law enforcement may be, they can not get there fast enough to stop someone who is in the process of pulling a trigger, only someone armed and willing to protect their family or themselves will put the perp down.

    • Jason

Why would you blame attorneys? A lawsuit is just an allegation made in a court. Sue-happy plaintiffs are just people who allege that someone else did something to them and should be held responsible. Muzzling allegations in court is the same as muzzling free speech.

      • Jean

        Not exactly.
The courts get tied up with nonsense lawsuits and real cases get pushed to the sides. (Who wants to deal with the 27th murder arraignment of the day? But a personal injury case, where there are all sorts of allegations back and forth from both sides – that’s a good show…)

There is a concept of “acceptance of risk” on the one hand: You accept that certain events are at least partly under your control, and accept that there is an inherent risk in what you are doing. For example, football causes injuries. You don’t get into the game and then scream that no one told you the risks. Blown knees, broken bones, concussion, bruised & broken ribs, pulled muscles, etc, etc, etc. Problem in frivolous lawsuits is we ignore this doctrine.

Put another way, you do NOT have the right to sue because you feel like it / are offended / someone bumped you / etc.

Besides that, court doesn’t follow the “rules” from TV. If you can, go sit in on a few cases – you’ll be APALLED at some of the BS that’s being done, in the name of “keeping us safe” (from ourselves, usually), and that’s JUST what they let you SEE – Chambers, Sideboards, suppressed evidence, dirty (even clean) cops, mis-representation of the law, extra-judicial harassment, witness intimidation, prosecutorial misconduct, coercion of testimony (and twisting the testimony, too), mis-application of laws, wrongful detainment, the list is endless. And only becomes publis after the fact, often YEARS after the fact – makign people question even more. Whether that’s smoke and mirrors to create “circuses”, or intentional to divide the populace, or something in between, who knows. (Sample concepts: CIA involvement in assassinations, say: MLK, Malcolm X, JFK).

Just because we don’t know there is a conspiracy doesn’t mean there wasn’t. Technically, JP Morgan was in a conspiracy with Andrew Carnegie: The result of Morgan purchasing Carnegie Steel was US Steel. Meets the definition; wasn’t evil; was still a conspiracy. You think it’s not a conspiracy if Bill Gates tells IBM he’s going to develop Technology X, and IBM should look at Technology Y? Might be, both profit; might be, both lose; or maybe one loses and one wins. Might never affect us in any meaningful way. Still conspiracy.

One of those things that might mess with your head a little, frame it the same as the men who stormed Normandy in WW2:
Perhaps there WAS a conspiracy to assassinate JFK. We could even accept the official story for this aspect. JFK was IN on it – KNEW he would die – but knew that to make the “dream,” there was a need for a martyr – so went ahead with the plans, knowing he would die – and accomplish more in that death to mold America than he could as an ex-President. (To clarify, I’m making this up, I don’t have any knowledge; it’s just to make an example.)

This country is changing, and our entire infrastructure and thought pattern has changed. Most people don’t have any deep relationships, even with their spouse, especially in urban areas. (Always been true re: urban areas being less connected in that sense. Too many distractions.) Lots of things are still hidden from the masses, no question about it – and many things can stay that way, too, not a problem. The problem is, what IS cancerous and problematic? Since our current administration promised transparency, we get to see SO MUCH… /Sarcasm.

damn. i been looking for this video for a long time! thanks for posting it and thanks for one of my favorite blogs! everyone i KNOW will be seeing this one soon.

    THAT’S PREPPING

Society preps. Has a Military, no country in History ever didn’t. And consider the Monsanto seed bank in Svalbard. Correct me if I am wrong but isn’t this prepping? And, while we put our feet up in front of the TV we send our sons to boxing, judo and karate classes. That’s prepping. The family is the nucleus of Society but on all levels, streets, neighborhoods, tribes, clans, mafia’s, corporations, Government Organizations etc they all prep and so they should. Risk not surviving if you don’t. The Shao Lin monks of Ancient China loved peace but knew Martial Arts are essential. That’s prepping and that will never change. Wish all true Warriors God Speed. That’s prepping.

  • Yama Bushi

Why don’t they talk about taking already illegal (for several reasons) guns away from gang members? Why don’t they take guns away from gangs?

    http://www.americanthinker.com/2013/01/gang_violence_and_gun_control.html

  • The Arizona Patriot

Gun control is not about guns its about CONTROL. Where I live in Arizona at least 50% of the population carries a weapon, our laws allow for it without a permit. We have very little violent crime here. Most of what we do have is criminal verse criminal. A armed society is a very polite society.

  • Cymro

Fuck a CWP. I am going to carry because it is my right to defend myself and my family. Screw these mindles assholes that put a sign in the window prohibiting guns. I will carry mine everywhere I go. That gun in her car did not help her one damn bit.

  • jimbo

Remember Liberals Hitler killed a lot of gypsies and sexual deviants(homosexuals). Better lock and load sissys and butches! Lol

    • SKIP

As will the muslims even though MANY of them are of that inclination, seen it at the Army prisons in Iraq. Saudis would rather screw little boys than their, in many cases, very beautiful women though I suspect the women don’t want them in their beds anyway.

    • Lone Wolf

that being said…and he was a scat eater too.
Eva Braun would shit and piss on his face.
I guess men with power like humiliation.

      • Jean

Only those with power can give up control.
Because ultimately, they STILL have the power – they snap their fingers, and still control the world.

  • KGG

Too bad the rest of the media won’t play this again for their viewers. How soon we forget! Take a stand people. Thank you for showing us this clip.

  • Lone Wolf

i’m not an animal hunter but support those who do.
i have guns for home defense and to uphold the constitution.
i have even made some guns from pipe i got from home depot. easy to make and fun to shoot.
show those morons in wash. what the american resistance can do regardless of their petty gun laws.
we have a gay commie nwo sock puppet in the white house who can’t even prove his birth in america.

    time to fight the bastards.
