A CBS News affiliate recently interviewed Dallas resident Ellen Terrell about her claims that she was targeted for full-body screening at DFW Airport because of her looks. Terrell says that she was asked three times to have her body scanned, so that TSA officials in a separate room could review the images displayed. Itâs against TSA policy to ask a passenger to go through body scanners multiple times. Terrell also says that the agent who was posted by the scanner commented on her âcuteâ figure. The TSA has denied profiling passengers based on looks or for any other reason.
The report doesnât specify when exactly the incident occurred, only saying that it happened âseveral months ago,â and Terrell never filed an official complaint because she says didnât know that she could. But after leaving the airport, Terrell says it dawned on her that she had been targeted for scanning because of her appearance, even though the TSA agents in the reviewing rooms cannot see the passengers who are going through security. Terrell says that she is just one of many women who have been treated inappropriately by TSA officers using their authority to ogle women in backrooms
Where do I sign up? In August a year and a half ago my two daughters flew from Atlanta to Boston, to stay with family for a few weeks. They were 14 and 17. I had never heard of TSA or body scanners because they had just gotten it there. I watched as my two underaged daughters were pulled out of the usual line by two middleaged men.They were taken to the empty body scanners (while We stood and watched through the plexiglass no one else had gone through them) and told to do the routine, you know lift the arms and everything. Then they were allowed to go with the rest of the passengers. They were wearing comfortable yoga pants and t-shirts, what could they possibly have been hiding? Well, I went home and went on the internet and found out they were put through naked body scanners! I told them that if there were more naked body scanners at Logan to let me know, I would drive up there and pick them up instead. I haven’t flown since, and neither has any of my family members. Talk about feeling violated!
@lina,
Lina, the powerful scanning equipment in the hands of “security professionals” will be abused. It is common practice to ârandomlyâ select attractive women for screening. Just one of the reasons we designed our scanner protective products. March is sexual assault month sadly, this dangerous equipment is being used for digital voyeurism. Jeff
@lina,
It is little wonder powerful imaging equipment will be abused and used as toys. What they are doing is digital voyeurism under the cover of “security”. It is common practice to ârandomlyâ select attractive women for scanning. March is national sexual assault month, we make scanner protective products to discourage this activity. A complaint may be in order link below.
