Congressman Ron Paul’s Speech Against Iran Sanctions August 1, 2012

Transcript, in part, below:

“But there is a political liability which I think is something that we fail to look at because too often there is so much blowback from our intervention in areas that we shouldn’t be involved in. You know, Hamas, if you look at the history, you will find that Hamas was encouraged and actually started by Israel because they wanted Hamas to counteract Yasir Arafat.”

“You say, well yeah, it was better then and served its purpose, but we didn’t want Hamas to do this. So then we, as Americans, say, Well, we have such a good system; we’re going to impose this on the world. We’re going to invade Iraq and teach people how to be democrats. We want free elections. So we encouraged the Palestinians to have a free election. They do, and they elect Hamas.”

“So we first, indirectly and directly through Israel, helped establish Hamas. Then we have an election where Hamas becomes dominant, then we have to kill them. You know, it just doesn’t make sense. During the 1980s, we were allied with Osama bin Laden and we were contending with the Soviets. It was at that time our CIA thought it was good if we radicalize the Muslim world. So we finance the Madrassas school to radicalize the Muslims in order to compete with the Soviets.”

“There is too much blowback…”

The Wall Street Journal has a detailed 1/24/2009 article “How Israel Helped to Spawn Hamas” that actually explains how this happened. It’s not that Israel actively wanted a murderous terrorist group on their doorstep but that they either ignored Hamas and/or recognized Hamas’s early efforts as a charity. To think that Israel had a secret plan to encourage the killers next door is ridiculous.

Hamas was founded by Sheikh Ahmed Yassin, a Palestinian spiritual leader who became an activist in the local branch of the Muslim Brotherhood after dedicating his early life to Islamic scholarship in Cairo. Beginning in the late 1960s, Yassin preached and performed charitable work in the West Bank and Gaza Strip, both of which were seized by Israeli forces following the 1967 Six-Day War. In 1973, he established al-Mujamma’ al-Islami (the Islamic Center) to coordinate the Brotherhood’s political activities in Gaza.

Yassin established Hamas as the Brotherhood’s local political arm in December 1987, following the outbreak of the first intifada, a Palestinian uprising against Israeli control of the West Bank, Gaza, and East Jerusalem. Hamas published its official charter in 1988, moving decidedly away from the Brotherhood’s ethos of nonviolence.

Hamas is just a controlled puppet used to keep the wars and tension going. Didn’t you see the 1984 movie? The Party itself was bombing its own capital! That’s just what this is!

What a fraud Israel is, and the sooner it’s gone, the better.
