The United Nations Human Rights Council has called for a moratorium on the use of pre-programmed ‘killer robots’. The moratorium is aimed at answering questions about the ethics of using such machines.
What is there to consider? Getting blown to pieces by a pre-programmed machine is as unethical as it gets. Using them on the battlefield will be restricted to those countries that can afford the technology. Those that can’t will see their fighters simply disposed of with impunity as there will be no human casualties inflicted on the other side.
Who will be responsible for war crimes? The machine? The designer? The owner? Nobody?
