Politically Correct School Bans Huckleberry Finn – the Mark Twain Classic That Critiqued Slavery – For Use of the “N” Word

Wow. Just when you began to wonder how the politically correct agenda could get any more pathetic than calling Star Wars racist because Darth Vader is black, its purveyors go and aspire.

That’s right. History is being rewritten left and right to avoid hurting anyone’s feelings in this country.

Now a school in Philadelphia recently announced that it was removing Huckleberry Finn, the Mark Twain novel written in 1885 that ranks as one of the all-time great American novels ever, from its classroom curriculum…

Because the book dares, in its historical accuracy, to include use of the “N” word.

Of course, the book is poignantly ahead of its time in its critique of slavery, and depicts a boy who befriends a slave and goes through many difficulties to help him reach freedom…

But the truth stopped mattering a long time ago in politically correct America.

As the NY Post reported, “The Politically Correct Crowd Just Got a Great American Novel Banned:

A suburban Philadelphia school expelled “Adventures of Huckleberry Finn” from its curriculum over the book’s overuse of the N-word.

The Friends’ Central School removed the Mark Twain classic from the 11th-grade American literature class last week after students said it made them feel uncomfortable, the Philadelphia Inquirer reported.

“We have all come to the conclusion that the community costs of reading this book in 11th grade outweigh the literary benefits,” principal Art Hall said in a letter to parents.

Hall said students were challenged by the use of the racial slur, and felt the school was not being inclusive enough…

Yes. Because not being “inclusive” by “challenging” students with reality is bad. Because we mustn’t hurt anyone’s feelings ever, all students must have a censored version of history spoonfed to them.

Continuing:

Deborah Caldwell-Stone, deputy director of the American Library Association’s Office for Intellectual Freedom, blasted the school’s action as an act of censorship.

“We would still see this as a kind of censorship because there is something to be learned from this work,” she told the Inquirer.

But the principal insisted it isn’t censorship.

Yes, it is, by definition, censorship. The fact that the principal doesn’t know what censorship is even while he is censoring something, well, that’s alarming in and of itself. But, really, this goes beyond mere censorship.

This is a politically correct agenda infecting our nation’s youth like a cancer with the ultimate goal of dumbing down future American adults into spineless, mindless drones without any critical thinking skills, strong convictions, or interest in standing up for their rights whatsoever.

The irony with banning this particular book for this reason is so thick, its painful. As commenter “Walter” pointed out:

A young white boy decides he’d rather go to hell than turn his black, runaway slave friend in. Let’s ban it because one of its words causes discomfort in some students and administrators. Twain would love the irony and cynically expect the idiocy. The book is the most powerful indictment of white racists ever written. It’s a shame some people never learn how to read, teach, or appreciate great literature.

Classic books are no longer allowed in schools, this one is just the start. Wait til the liberals start burning them. Oh yeah that’s were this sh*t is going. Stupidity running wild.

  • I found an exact copy of the Huck Finn 1965 Edition I had as a kid last year in a thrift store, it’s my go-to bathroom reader.

pg. 78: A raft went by so close we could hear them talking and cussing and laughing — heard them plain, but we couldn’t see no sign of them. It made you feel crawly; it was like spirits carrying on that way in the air. Jim said he believed it was spirits.

But I says, ” No, spirits wouldn’t say, ‘ Dern the dern fog.’ “

I purchased one several years ago alone with a 1957 printing of the Webster’s dictionary exactly for this reason.

We are now living in San Angeles from the movie “Demolition Man” with Cocktow running the show telling me to enhance my calm when my 6 year old grand-daughter screams because there’s a 40 year old man in the restroom. Soon we’ll be well on our why to living under the watchful eye of the “1984” telescreens and rat cages around our heads when we won’t comply.

we already do, we have zionist media telling whom to hate or to like, they even decide what feeling we should have. if don’t fee, like the majority, we feel stupid and dumb. it’s all downhill from now.

I am not a movie person but I have always loved Demolition Man. Very good comparison….I tend to think Brave New World mixed with 1984 is our future. Too bad I can’t post images here because I have a fantastic cartoon that shows how we’re like them both….

The ignorant masses run in packs of like individuals so desperate to somehow stand out as important they will cling to any mind numbing idea that comes along.
Those who see through the crap and want no part of it tend not to need the perceived safety of the group and therefor fight their battles more independently. This makes it appear that the number of people sickened by PC BS and the dumbing down process are few, but in reality we are not.
Anything they ban we spread. Anything they hate we make available to whoever wants it. When they open their mouths we shut them down. And when the natural consequence of their stupidity reaches them we sit and watch with popcorn.
I have no sympathy left for stupid.

“All modern American literature comes from one book by Mark Twain called Huckleberry Finn. American writing comes from that. There was nothing before. There has been nothing as good since.”
    (Ernest Hemingway)

I would love to hear a liberal explain the difference between banning books and burning them.

    • Maddog

The end result will be the same I assure you.

      • RandyJ/ProudSurvivor

        Undoubtedly.

  • Carroll Price

This should never happen under any circumstances, but as far as it leading to the “dumbing-down” of todays public school students, that would be an impossibility at this point. In the history of civilized nations there’s never been a more ignorant group of “educated” people as what the public school system has produced over the past 20 years. So don’t worry too much about Huckleberry Finn being missed because 9/10’s of todays students couldn’t read that book or any other book if their lives depended on it

    • Maddog

It is a sorry state for sure. I no longer even try to engage a majority of the sheepe I encounter. Walking zombies pretending to be real people. As soon as they open their mouths all you get is grunts.

      • Carroll Price

Within the time span of one generation, the language skills of the average American teen-agers has regressed to that of a stone-age people having the ability of communicating through a series of grunts and groans that mimic the sound of hogs feeding on acorns. It is indeed rare to encounter a single American teen-ager with the ability of expressing a thought requiring the use of more than two partially formed grunts bearing no resemblance to any known language

Jesus H. Christ! When will all of this political correctness bullshit come to an end? Next thing you know, we will become the Fahrenheit 451 society where the only time the fire department shows up is to burn books. I believe Nazi Germany did the same things with books that did not fit into their philosophy.

Yet black performers of Rap and hip-hop, regularly use the word nigger in their performances. The whole P/C thing has lost all sense – long ago!

Growing up in Canada, i made sure when i was fifteen, the first three novels i read were Tom Sawyer, Huckleberry Finn and the shorter follow-up, Tom Sawyer Detective. It seems even the best writers are hurting somebody’s feelings somewhere.

We need segregation back, now. We can’t get along and we’re wasting our time with this asinine shit. Better to just separate peacefully and amicably and fulfill our destinies on our own.
