NASA’s Rover Captures Photo of Strange “Valve” on Mars

It seems like nearly every week, there is a new report of some “strange anomaly” found on Mars. It’s become so commonplace that these stories aren’t really notable anymore, and are usually relegated to some dark corner of an online tabloid. These Mars rover photos usually consist of blurry, distant silhouettes and vague creatures that look suspiciously like rocks to me.

Normally I role my eyes every time, as I have yet to see anything that is truly compelling. And despite a lifetime of being suspicious of everything the government tells me, I usually find myself begrudgingly siding with NASA on these claims of “extraterrestrial life” on Mars.

However, a recent photo of the Martian surface has left me scratching my head. Unlike previous pictures claiming to depict “sasquatch on mars” or what have you, this one is very clear and is hard to interpret as a natural feature. The website Enigmadigest was responsible for breaking the story, and they likened this device to a high pressure valve, but I’m not so certain. To me it looks more like an imprint left behind by some kind of tool. Take a look for yourself.

You can clearly see that this imprint is a perfect circle, and it contains a symmetrical pattern within it. Off to the left is a ridge with a very clean cut. My mind refuses to see this as natural in any way. It really looks like something that was made by an intelligent creature.

It’s not a fake either. You can take a look at the original photo on NASA’s website. The only reasonable explanation I can come up with, is that maybe it’s an imprint left behind by one of the Mars Rover’s tools. But if that’s the case, why haven’t we seen anything like it before?

Whatever it is, it’s unlike any Mars photo I’ve ever seen. It’s hard for me to write it up as a natural formation or a trick of the eyes. So what do you think? Is this a natural feature of the Red Planet, or an imprint left behind by the rover? Or is it something far stranger?

    Mars was once like earth…Maybe?

  • bsackamano

NASA-NEVER A STRAIGHT ANSWER is a proven LIAR. All of its Apollo Hoax pictures from a military base in NV and at Disney Studios are sloppy etc. The “Mars” pictures for the Sheeple are either in a hanger as well or composite computer generated, we have no way of knowing now since the digital software is so advanced. IF we ever went to the moon or mars it’s not with Apollo technology and it’s a black op we’ll never be told about. Wake up.

    • Nexusfast123

I guess the pictures of the remains of the Apollo landers on the moon’s surface are also made up. The pictures are non US.

      • bsackamano

stick to your EBS,(emotional belief system) it’s better for Sheeple!

        • Defiant

          LMAO! Yeah…it’s HIM with “EBS!”

      • Defiant

And the laser reflector the guys LEFT ON THE MOON which people on Earth STILL bounce lasers off of different types of research. LOL!

      • Hannon

I’ve always heard claims of those pictures, but all I ever saw was a blurry undefinable dot labeled lander. I’ve seen more convincing bigfoot photos and I don’t even believe in bigfoot.

    • Defiant

      Oh…here we go…

  • JS

There are eroded pyramids and statues with facial features on Mars also. I don’t think it’s all a coincidence or just the mind playing tricks.

  • Dont Mention The War

That photo was taken with the Opportunity’s Microscopic Imager so it would be one very small valve indeed if it is a non-natural valve as suggested! Cheers!

A number of minerals have crystals that grow in the shape shown. What is pictured maybe entirely natural.

  • Defiant

It really doesn’t look like a result of nature. Quite interesting…but NASA will indeed tell us it’s an imprint from a rover tool…what else CAN they say? To be honest, as interesting as it is…it probably IS an imprint from a rover tool…

  • Just one more good reason to stop dicking around and send an actual human exploration team to Mars.

  • Nexusfast123

Nothing odd. It is an imprint of one of the Phillips screws of a lander instrument.

    • You might be right, but I’d like to see something establishing the scale of the object – if it’s a foot or more across, I doubt that it’s a phillips-head screw imprint.

I knew Al Gore was a Martian, he’s just trying to save all of us from the same destruction. Quick, give up your wealth and freedom !

The mission log indicates that the rover was operating autonomously at this time. Based on the image, this appears to be the impression of a torq-set screw head. The most likely source for this given the mission profile, shape of the curve next to it, and the shape of the impression, is that the Xray imager bumped the ground when the rover was deploying the camera.

    Picture of imager here:

Note the “different” phillips head screws at noon, 3:00, 6:00, and 9:00 on the instrument. Those are Torq-set screws, and match what you see in the image.

I want to find evidence of life on Mars, but there is a problem. Consider earth fossils. They are usually uncovered by water action or man. After being exposed, they degrade to dust in just a few years. On Mars there is no water action to uncover new fossils and any fossils that were on the surface have been sand-blasted for unknown millions of years. It’s incredibly unlikely we’ll find anything just sitting on the surface.

That’s why we need to go there for long periods of time. Preferably equipped with mining and drilling equipment and a lot of high explosives.

(Somewhere there is a guy shaking his head and thinking: “We just got to
a new planet and the first thing you want to do is put holes in it and blow it up!”. I really can’t apologize for that. It’s what I do.)

    • tayronachan

Hey, Earth first, we’ll get to the rest of the planets later. 🙂

  • tayronachan

    Possible fossil?

  • Remy McKinsey

Maybe theyre not even on Mars. How come that never pops up as the most obvious answer. Photos of squirrels, animal skulls, manmade valves. Doesnt it seem pretty obvious??

  • itsokay

chill out everybody, its the imprint of a phillips screw. The microscopic imager has a lot of them on all sides.
