New Jersey’s unemployment rate is the highest in more than three decades. Revenue trails Governor Chris Christie’s projections by $100 million. And its assembly is considering making the state the first in the U.S. to require drivers to restrain pets in their vehicles.
Assemblywoman L. Grace Spencer, a Newark Democrat who owns a Pomeranian named A.J. along with five cats and a rabbit, has introduced a bill to require motorists to secure dogs and felines with a seatbelt-like harness if they’re not being transported in crates.
Violators would get a $25 ticket that might escalate to an animal-cruelty charge with a fine of as much as $1,000 in extreme cases, such as having an unrestrained pet in the bed of a pickup.
Securing animals is “a bigger issue than people realize,” said Spencer, 44, a liability-law attorney. She said her measure will protect motorists and animals alike.
“We didn’t think that texting was so big of an issue until people started dying,” she said.

As a Nation we face many important issues that directly effect our very survival. Animal seat belts seems to be rather low on the list. I believe Grace Spencer could find a more constructive way to spend her time.
Just in: Bloomberg wants to make it a crime to kill germs.
Nj continues to have unemployment increases regardles of laying off a lot of the pesky union and reforming pensions? Nothing the conservatives say will increase employment or decrease taxes seem to work.
Common sense should dictate people keep pets safe. They can cause injury to others on impact and police have not been too accomodating to pets.

more mens shoes are ruined because of the refusal to do the double shake at the urinal,i think we should bring up a bill to obama that everyone who doesnt do the double shake at the urinal be charged with destruction of private property,child endangerment(what if a kid slips and falls)and should get a fine of 1,000 dollars and 6 months in jail if the do not do a double shake at every urinal

Anyone wants to put a seat belt on my 90 lb. dobie is more than welcome to try. I guarantee that anyone dumb enough to try it will not be trying it twice.
