Mount Etna, one of the planets most active volcanoes has erupted in the early hours of the morning. It’s the first explosive eruption of the year but indicates there may well be more to come.

The volcano, on the island of Sicily is known for its spasmodic outpourings of lava. There were strong flashes as gases escaped from the volcano and lava production from the new South-east crater.
