Now this is the kind of story I like to post. Nelson, Georgia, which was established in 1843, could require every homeowner to own a gun.
The ordinance requires gun ownership, but allows several outs, like if youâre not physically or mentally able to handle a gun, or if youâre a felon or have religious objections.
City leaders say they need the ordinance because there city is in between two counties; Cherokee to the south and Pickens to the north.
Because of this they believe that response times of police will be slower.
Nelson City Councilman Duane Cronic believes the proposal is simple mathematics. The city has one police officer. He patrols 8 hours a day and that leaves 16 hours without him on call. Of course, Freedom Outpost thinks that even if more police were available that citizens should be armed. Itâs as American as apple pie.
âWhen heâs not here we rely on county sheriffsâhowever it takes a while for them to get here,â he said.
âEvery head of household will own and maintain a firearm,â he said.
Bill McNiff lives in Nelson, carries a pistol and supports the law.
âI think every city should do it. I think it should go countywide too,â McNiff said.
The new ordinance is closely modeled after the 1982 law passed in Kennesaw, Georgia which had tremendous results.
This comes on the heels of Milwaukee Sheriff David Clarkeâs statement âWith officers laid off and furloughed, simply calling 911 and waiting is no longer your best option⊠You have a duty to protect yourself and your family.â
Many big city cops oppose Clarkeâs view on homeowners having guns. Obviously this is a problem for those who donât want to uphold Constitutionally protected rights. âWe donât think assault weapons should be part of the setting in urban America,â said Atlanta Police Chief George Turner. âWhen youâre talking about the largest 66 cities in America, where 80 percent of people in the country live, people living on top of themselves, thatâs a unique situation thatâs distinctly different than policing in [rural] Woodstock, Ga.,â for example.
A call to the Atlanta Police Department did confirm that uniformed police officers are only armed with sidearms and shotguns in their vehicles, Atlanta does possess SWAT teams which do carry AR-15s and weapons of that nature, though clearly not the legally defined fully automatic guns known as assault weapons. Turner is simply following the language of the media and the left in this regard. Obviously SWAT teams in Atlanta carry these types of weapons. So, while Turner says, âWe donât think assault weapons should be part of the setting in urban America,â in practice he does something else. The real issue is he doesnât think citizens should possess these in urban areas. They are, in fact, not only a part of urban America, but urban Atlanta.
This is why it is essential that those in law enforcement understand that the Second Amendment is not to be infringed upon and if someone has the mindset of leaning towards infringing upon the Second Amendment then they need to resign and find another line of work.
As Publius Huldah has demonstrated, Congress can impose such demands of the citizens of the United States. I would think cities could do that same. In this manner they are not infringing on the Second Amendment, but rather encouraging it to preserve lives and a free state.

I strongly believe in the 2nd amendment, I own three guns myself. I also believe, that it is our God given right to protect ourselves, and our families from people who wish harm on us, and from tyranny. Although I do not believe any government, federal, state or local has the right to mandate anything on it’s people. If some doesn’t want to own a gun, its his decision not to. I believe in personal liberty from any government, as long as you yourself are not doing someone harm, or infringing on someone else rights. Keep government out of it.
Truth
We don’t need dim-witted simpleton bureaucrats telling us which rights we can have and which we can’t. We are supposed to be entitled to all of our rights. This is not supposed to be the frickin Soviet Union people!
OF COURSE the BLACKLANTA sheriff would object to the prey being armed as that would have a disparate affect on black thug predators, of which BLACKlanta has a wealth of. Mustn’t shoot a black thug in BLACKlanta, especially if the prey is White (which most are)
