John Cleese: Political Correctness Will Lead To An Orwellian Nightmare

| |

free speech tape mouth

John Cleese says political correctness has gone too far, especially on America’s college campuses, where he will no longer go to perform. As BigThink reports, the very essence of his trade — comedy — is criticism and that not infrequently means hurt feelings. But protecting everyone from negative emotion all the time is not only impractical (one can’t control the feelings of another), but also improper in a free society.

Cleese, having worked with psychiatrist Robin Skynner, says there may even be something more sinister behind the insistence to be always be politically correct.

“If you start to say we mustn’t, we mustn’t criticize or offend them then humor is gone. With humor goes a sense of proportion. And then as far as I’m concerned you’re living in 1984.”

157 seconds of Python-esque reality from Mr Cleese on just how silly all this PC-ness really is…

I’ve said, since Day One, that Political Correctness is a fatal disease – and I’ll have nothing to do with it.

My inalienable right to speak trumps your non-existent right to not get rump-ruffled.

    Grow some fucking skin.

      My sentiments exactly.

Problem is, most people believe that because they pay for governments and vote, that somehow those governments are on their side. Further, because most political Parties in any [democratic] society offer roughly the same ideas and solution, they assume their democracy is working as it produces centrist political manifestos. It never seems to occur to them that the centrism is a collusion designed to maintain the tranquillity of the cannon-fodder. Centrism is a result of years of careful political indoctrination and the absence of any realistic opposition. It is not the result of some democratic process.

When you can use Orwellian terms to accurately define actions and words, you are in trouble.

When did the world get taken over by pussies?

    • Reverend Draco

It kills me to say this. . . breaks my heart, really – but it has to be said.

      When women got the vote.

That’s when the end began. That’s when “feelz” started becoming more important than objective reality.

Interesting concept… I was thinking it had more to do with all the estrogen mimickers, such as BPA, which are put in clothes and food and the media chattering on with their liberal ideals. Maybe it’s a little of A and a little of B…? I’m glad I’m not a typical woman…

        • Reverend Draco

Not to mention that Soy is chock-full of female hormones, causing testicular atrophy in males and uterine hypertrophy in females.
It’s also suspected that this is the reason why gays think they’re “born that way,” because their hormonal balance was shot to shit as infants – they really can’t remember a time when they weren’t fucked up.

THIS, and I’m a woman. But it’s true and I would like to go back to the old ways, where men made the decisions because policy based on feels is destroying the world.

What’s the point of being politically correct when politics are a joke? How can we make the world a better place if we’re too scared to tell someone they are wrong because we might offend them?

Society has become a pile of crap with people fighting to be on the bottom, the deepest in the shit and that is one of the reasons I like this site in particular, a lot of the commenters here aren’t afraid to express how they really feel…

When being stupid is cool, when money is more important than health and when your image is more important than being true to yourself what are you really adding to society, fucking nothing..

We live in a world of douchebags masquerading as people.

    • Reverend Draco

I love it when someone gives me shit because I’ve given some dimglow an ass-chewing for being intellectually barren.

It gives me a perfect opportunity to blatantly show them how idiotic political correctness is, “If someone doesn’t let a dumbass know that they’re a dumbass, how will they ever know to stop being a fucking dumbass?” Or, “The reason these fucking idiots keep pulling the same stupid shit over and over, is that nobody ever tells them to knock it the fuck off.”

      Douchebag masquerade, indeed.

    • whiteberry

      I concur!

  • RobertFl

Then why are you a liberal supporter, Cleese?
    PC is their construct.

  • Maddog

I’ll say it again, Political Correctness is Thought Tyranny. It is another weapon in the war against liberty and freedom. It is used to eliminate any resistance to control of the sheeple. You may remember “I didn’t say anything because I didn’t want to be called a racist” from the San Bernardino mooslim attack.

If you don’t like what someone says….then smash them with logic. Unless of course….you can’t.
