Now featured in the center ring, it’s Issa vs. Cummings.
Congressman Darrell Issa (R-CA) was challenged at the recent testimony of Lois Lerner, the scapegoat of the IRS scandal. The IRS was caught unfairly targeting patriot and conservative groups, so you’d think that a Republican senator would be the first person to want the truth. Instead, Issa basically shrugged and said he could ”see no point in going further” with the questioning.
Round One began when Elijah Cummings, a Democrat from Maryland, surprisingly made the first jab.  He was the one who demanded that the investigation go further. ”You cannot just have a one-sided investigation,” said Cummings. It was only last month when Cummings harassed a Tea Party leader during her testimony before the committee (see the video HERE). This whole episode is particularly surreal, since Cummings has been adamant in his defense of the White House with regard to the accusations of IRS corruption.
Cummings said in late February, the House Oversight Committee’s investigation has cost the government at least $14 million dollars, and taken up97,542 hours of IRS employee time. In a statement at the time, Cummings accused Republicans of “remain[ing] fixated on falsely accusing the White House of targeting its political enemies,” without producing evidence to support those claims. What’s even stranger is that Issa, up until this point, has been relentless regarding this investigation. Of course, Issa did receive a Dishonorable Mention in last year’s CREW report on the 2013 Most Corrupt list, so perhaps this should be no surprise.
Issa, for his part, believes that Lerner has waived her Fifth Amendment rights by giving a statement at a previous hearings, something with which Cummings (and Lerner’s legal team) disagrees. In a Wednesday statement, Issa argued that “Ms. Lerner is uniquely positioned to provide testimony that will help the committee better understand how and why the IRS targeted conservative groups,” and said the committee would consider holding her in contempt if she keeps refusing to talk. (source)
During Round Two, Issa blocked the blows from Cummings with appallingly arrogance, blatantly ignoring the aggressor. Cummings continued the attack, so Issa had Cummings’ microphone cut, which resulted in a haymaker by Cummings, shouting to be heard. For Round Three, Issa ended the bout by leaving the ring…uh…room.
Mandatory eight count for the American people. IRS wins.
Watch this video to see the embarrassing antics of some of the mostly highly positioned politicians in our country. It’s past time to clean House and Senate.
