GMOs Just Got a Lot More Frightening With Approval of New Monsanto Product

Monsanto

Forget spraying pesticides on your food, now they’ll be genetically engineered to be in your food, thanks to Monsanto’s latest quiet approval via the US Environmental Protection Agency.

The EPA just told Monsanto they could go ahead and bypass spraying our crops with carcinogenic chemicals like Round Up and just go ahead and breed them right into the crops themselves. Using a process called RNA interference, Monsanto’s RNAi plant will supposedly kill pesky rootworms when they come along to chomp on them- but what else will these genetically modified crops do to beneficial bugs, the soil, and human health? The EPA has no idea, because they haven’t done a single trial on RNAi-altered crops.

Nonetheless, the EPA quietly gave Monsanto a Get-Out-of-Jail-Free card by allowing them to move forward with their genetically modified corn strain. Some are calling this a genetic weapon, in its infancy. Others are concerned that RNAi will have ramifications for the biosphere that – just like all of Monsanto’s other products – don’t come to light for years to come.

For instance, the National Honey Bee Advisory Board said in comments submitted to the E.P.A. before a “meeting” in which this controversial genetic technology was to be reviewed,

To attempt to use this technology at this current stage of understanding would be more naïve than our use of DDT in the 1950s.

While the corn rootworm is one of the most expensive pests in agriculture it is having a hey day because corn – the genetically modified kind – is the number one crop in the U.S.

GM corn has taken over thousands of other possible crops we could be growing, in field after field of mono-cropped, industrial agriculturally influenced support of the Standard American Diet – up to 70 percent of which contain corn products (high fructose corn syrup, corn solids, etc.)

We also heavily subsidize genetically modified corn to be used not as food, but as a gasoline additive. Ethanol accounts for a few thousand acres of those GM corn crops we’re growing, too.

RNAi – Gene Silencing

Another big problem with Monsanto getting a green light on this crop is that RNAi is a form of gene silencing. What is true for petunias isn’t necessarily true for people. If we were to silence the gene that makes a pigment in a flower so it can attract bees, for example, this could end up in our own bodies, silencing our own genetic make-up in ways we don’t expect.

Regalado, one researcher who helped discover RNAi describes it this way,

The cells of plants and animals carry their instructions in the form of DNA. To make a protein, the sequence of genetic letters in each gene gets copied into matching strands of RNA, which then float out of the nucleus to guide the protein-making machinery of the cell. RNA interference, or gene silencing, is a way to destroy specific RNA messages so that a particular protein is not made.

Might not an alteration to the foods we eat, also have the possibility of affecting our own DNA? We know now that proteins are even more important than some scientists previously assumed for signaling certain instructions for genes to carry out their intended purpose.

The very same institutions studying RNAi will admit that protein alteration can epigenetically create or destroy disease.

If Big Ag Giants Monsanto, and Dow (cooperating to make this RNAi corn a reality) continue in their successful attempts to get DvSnf7 corn (to be called SmartStax Pro) into our food supply, we have no idea what mayhem might ensue.

    • Undecider

You’ve never heard of SmartStax? GMO engineered INTO the plant has always been the issue. Glyphosate or pesticides are advertised as something you want wash off. The true nature of GMO is that it’s IN the plant.

Dude, you really need to give it up. The more you post your nonsense, the more you expose yourself as uninformed.

      • Gmo Roberts

Lol, 95% of what I sell is SmartStax I will give you credit as most of you trolls know nothing about it. You are 100 % wrong as you think the bt is bad as in Germany they apply much more that the bt corn produces and advertise that it is safe to eat immediately after spraying without washing. You have the vocabulary but don’t have a clue as to it’s meAning.

        • Undecider

I’m no fan of consuming anything not intended by nature. Whether it’s sprayed on the outside or engineered to be part of the genetics, it’s a no-go for consumption. If it kills bugs, it damages people. That’s commonsense.

          • Gmo Roberts

So then what do you eat? As nature didn’t intend on almost everything we have, man changed it to make it what it is today.

          • Gmo Roberts

I guess that also means you don’t buy organics since they are sprayed with Bt.

          • Undecider

I do my best to minimize on the intake of any deliberately designed to slow kill me. Sure, you can’t avoid all the dangers but you can try. You can also detox and supplement your diet to compensate for that which drags you down.

No, I wouldn’t argue that all Non-GMO and organic are true. Just make an effort to keep your body as clean as possible to perform your own version of life extension. That’s the least we can ask for.

  • lfthndthrds

Don’t eat the stuff. Simple as that. Inform the uneducated and do your best. That’s all you can do. Let the chips fall.

    • Clementine

Even if you do not eat it, it is leaching into the soil and water…

Some of these other genetically modified crops are actually spreading pollen that is ruining normal crops.

Have to get a plot of land grow our own food. All corporation cannot be trusted.

    • MCR

Great idea. Just clearly label it so I can avoid it if I want to.

  • Clementine

They are constantly finding new ways to kill us, destroy the planet, and capitalize within the medical industrial complex…

  • dav1bg

Even now you need a hazmat suit to walk through a corn field.

  • RandyJ/ProudSurvivor

The next step? “Enhancements” to our “food” which would permanently alter our DNA? God how I HATE Monsanto.

  • Time Will Tell

    Do corn stalks burn ?

    • SP_88

If it does, they will probably modify the genes so it doesn’t. I bet their laboratories burn though. 🙂

    • How do you think they could make ethanol from them if they didn’t?

  • Fingal Carson

All corn and soy consumed must be organic, no exceptions. All dairy consumed has to be organic and preferably raw, no exceptions. Virtually all, if not all food should be organic and raw, no exceptions. All foodstuff consumed must be non-GMO, no exceptions. Animal meat should not be consumed. Wheat is not food and should never be consumed. Grass grains should not be consumed.

Anyone who can’t follow that very well is paving the way for their own cancer and diseases. Deal with it.

Everyone wants chemical creations for food, so that’s what we’ve got to deal with.

  • SP_88

These fools are going to cause harm to the environment, our eco-system and our health as well as the health of other plants, animals and insects. They have no clue how bad this could become for the planet.
Meddling in such things could cause widespread and irreparable damage to countless other things, and we won’t know about it for many years. But by then it will be too late.
This sort of thing should never have been allowed to happen, at least not without many years of very extensive research. And even then I don’t think it’s a good idea.
There must be ways of growing enough food for everyone without having to resort to using toxic chemicals and dangerous genetically modified crops.
    This is insanity.

    • Neil Tana

Going? It is pass the tipping point. It is out of control capitalism where the object of the game is profit over human life in all industries. What we thought was unlimited potential for greed from the days of Ralph Nader has not evolved into a freakish circus where the psychopaths and sociopaths rule and kill people at will with their decisions. It is incredible to see the western world create their own brand of dictatorship, confusing the public that they live in a democracy, but ripping the off where it really matters for the good of America and humanity. I do not see any hope in the future because those with the power and money have the one fear of losing everything they gained.

      • RandyJ/ProudSurvivor

This isn’t “out of control capitalism” imo. Monsanto is a front owned and controlled by the elites who have delusions of thinning the herd. It’s no accident that the Big M is one of, if not the most powerful corporations in the US and has been for decades. Control over agriculture and the food chain as a whole is instrumental to achieving the elites goals for population control. Monsanto’s catalog of agricultural products are capable of affecting not only food crops but the animals who eat them as well. It gives them a veritable double whammy of toxic influence.

        • As long as they are making money, they’ll leave the eugenics to the eugenicists.

      • SP_88

I agree with everything you said, with the exception of “out of control capitalism”. I don’t know what it is about capitalism that makes people think there something wrong with it. Capitalism simply means a free market. It means that people are free to trade with each other without any government interference that would cause such trade to be unfair or that would prevent free market competition.
The problem is out of control fascism. The government has created a situation where competition is being oppressed so it doesn’t cut into the profits of big corporations. The big corporations have paid off these crooked politicians in exchange for policies and regulations that would make it extremely expensive and difficult for anyone else to start such a company. And without competition, these big corporations are free to charge outrageous prices for their products.
And that’s just an example. There are other instances where big corporations sell things so cheap that nobody else can compete. Wal-Mart is such an example.
When we, the consumer have many choices and options for where to buy products and services, we end up with better products and services at a lower price. But when only one or two big corporations are the only ones available, they are able to charge much higher prices and they tend to offer crappy products and lousy services because they know you don’t have a choice.
So don’t blame capitalism, blame these crooked politicians and bureaucrats who took bribes and kickbacks in exchange for killing any reasonable possibility of other companies being able to compete with big corporations. These corrupt politicians sold us out.
I believe you would agree that the government should not be controlling who can engage in a a business and who can’t just so they can keep the rich people rich.

  • Undecider

This has always been the case.

  • TrevorD

And `they` take another step against us because nobody with at least some power and a slight godly, universal conscience (Literal meaning by the elitists to con science) has the will, humanity or to even see a liitle further than their bank accounts is stopping them. The higher that one climbs the corporate corrupt western pyramid of power the more useless and indeed adverse to Humanity and our shared Consciousness they become. They are therefore trapped and controlled and they keep their jobs and indeed their lives if they try do exactly the same to us. All is fake, but Humanity awakes.
