For First Time, Most Americans Believe Federal Government Threatens Personal FreedomsDistrust of the U.S. government has reached an all-time high among Americans, a majority of whom now say Washington represents a threat to their personal freedoms.

According to a new poll by the Pew Research Center for the People & the Press, 53% of respondents said the federal government threatens their own personal rights and freedoms. Those disagreeing numbered 43%.

The percentage of those viewing the government as a threat represents a six-point increase from nearly three years ago, when 47% said they felt that way, and a 23% jump from November 2001, when Americans rallied around their government following the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001.

Conservative Republicans are the largest group who distrust Washington, with 76% expressing fear for their personal freedoms. A majority (54%) described the government as a “major” threat.

Three years ago, 62% of conservative Republicans said the government was a threat to their freedom, while 47% said it was a major threat, according to the Pew survey.

Meanwhile, only 38% of Democrats see the government as a threat to personal rights and freedoms, with 16% viewing it as a major threat.

Among gun owners, 62% see the government as a threat, compared with 45% of those without guns.

Gee. Whats the big surprise here. Not only Fed, but state and local as well as the ABC agencies and a good number of LEO’s. Till we know where they stand on the 2nd am. they (LEOs) may think it only applies to them.

The fix is beyond the ballot box. Semper Fi. III

Even if the majority grows, or not. Why did Obama say we will hear talk of tyranny? With the new promulgated terrorist laws now in effect coupled with an obviously corrupt electoral system. Exactly, how does one go about addressing their government for peaceful redress of grievances? No, if the Secret Service is in attendance and Obama has Secret Service protection for life. With the military statements and training that opposition to government is low level terrorism. With the fast ensuing Holder antigun culture change, perhaps they have secretly admitted to themselves it may take a generation longer. A small victory in what they leave of peaceful dissent? Perhaps. Yes, they now go after the children who make bubbles and point fingers, while they point true assault weapons at sleeping babies during their misdemeaner raids. It may take them a little longer, not much, these kids will grow fast. It seems they want it in their lifetime at the expense of ours and that would explain their haste. Freedom now demands our haste before it also, is labelled terrorism.

Thats why you make the big bucks. :-)

G-DAWG, thanks man. I’ve just witnessed their antics a little longer. Of the bucks I speak, remember, those big bucks didn’t get big antlers by keeping their eyes closed. Semper Fidelis, indeed.

Not surpirised by this. After all, most Americans believe in creation, something for which there is absolutely no supporting evidence. It seems Americans pefer to believe in myths, fables and legends rather than accept verifiable facts. Reminds me of a quote I once came acros attributed to MarL twain; “People tend to believe everything I tell them, except when I tell the truth.”

    • ncjoe is an idiot

Stick to quoting Karl Marx–Twain is more for verifiable Americans who believe in liberty you useless, soul-sucking Statist Jackass.

    • ZigZag

I now know what nc stands for … nut case. It seems joe believes everything the government tells him to believe. Way to prove your own case about how you believe myths, fables and legends rather than verifiable facts. LOL.

Sandy Hook children just used again for Super Bowl. Pure propaganda for the masses. Really pushing control down our throats. They should be ashamed but are not.

Unfortunately, most of these partially awake people attribute all of the ills of society on the other party (whichever one they do not support).

Who is ultimately to blame? Coeercive collectivist globalist organized criminal members of both parties, democrats and neocons (coercive collectivists all).

  • Truthhound

If you love freedom, you find it impossible to love the federial government.
