DHS to Monitor All Media and Journalists: Guess What’s Coming?

Let’s start out with a revealing statement from an individual named Tyler Q. Houlton, listed as a “spokesperson for DHS,” regarding the agency’s latest maneuver. Here’s what Houlton had to say:

“Despite what some reporters may suggest, this is nothing more than the standard practice of monitoring current events in the media. Any suggestion otherwise is fit for tin foil hat wearing, black helicopter conspiracy theorists.”

This statement on Houlton’s Twitter account came on the heels of a release that DHS is now going to monitor all journalists. The article is entitled Homeland Security to compile database of journalists and ‘media influencers. Here are two noteworthy excerpts:

The Department of Homeland Security wants to track the comings and goings of journalists, bloggers and other “media influencers” through a database. The DHS’s “Media Monitoring” plan, which was first reported by FedBizOpps.gov, would give the contracting company “24/7 access to a password protected, media influencer database, including journalists, editors, correspondents, social media influencers, bloggers etc.” in order to “identify any and all media coverage related to the Department of Homeland Security or a particular event.”

The plan calls for the ability to track 290,000 news sources including online, print, broadcast and social media. Also, it would have the ability to track media coverage in over 100 languages, along with the “ability to create unlimited data tracking, statistical breakdown, and graphical analyses on ad-hoc basis.”  DHS spokesman Tyler Q. Houlton tweeted on Friday that the practice of monitoring the press is considered “standard.”

Houlton is correct: the practice of monitoring everyone is the existing paradigm, a “format” that is expanding daily.  Standard practice for a government that has turned into a “soft” tyranny over the past 30 years or so: a “soft” totalitarian state.

In this act of the drama, DHS will sub out the work to contractors (more “trusted travelers,” no doubt). By doing this, not only will DHS divide the work load, but they will have “nodes” of operation (similar to the ones commenters use who change their names frequently, and “bump” their ISP addresses so as not to be traced) to assure they will not be exposed publicly.

By spreading out the “drones” and “workers,” the hive is supplied, yet is not affected if they don’t return/something befalls them, and there is a level of insulation that provides them with protection from and keeping information away from the public. The government agency (DHS) makes an agreement with a trusted, friendly contractor that is private and also classified in the interests of national security to further shield it from the Freedom of Information Act (an “archaic” document that is a paper tiger, akin to Posse Comitatus and Marbury vs. Madison…other doc’s that the Statists have effectively negated). The “national security” classification also works as an extension to give someone second thoughts about leaning on one of the contractors…as they are under the Statist protection either directly or indirectly.

We have already sub-contracted classified functions of data storage to private firms that are foreign, as well as domestic.

The system is continually creating an inexorably tightening web of interdependencies behind the scenes that would take decades to be unraveled: unlike the Gordian Knot, we have no Alexander the Great to sever this sinister, fostered interweaving with one swipe of a sword.

Social media, and now every form of reporting in the mainstream media as well as alternative sources are now under scrutiny with a database (by their own admission) being created.

This is more than mere censorship: This is the furtherance of compilation of a list of enemies of the State.

The book, “I Am Legend,” by Richard Matheson illustrates where those who wish to exercise freedom of speech will be in the end…behind bars, akin to the main character who became the anachronism…the “monster” to the “new society” that was formed after the Plague. That marginalization is occurring now. There will be no escape, meaning an “escape” from detection. Refer to previous articles recently written. The “Internet of Things” is in place to find out who is communicating what to another individual or group.

Moreover, the communication doesn’t need to pertain directly to DHS, as it mentioned in the article. It stated the database purpose is to “identify any and all media coverage related to the Department of Homeland Security or a particular event.” This is where it is really bad, because a “particular event,” if linked to a national or even state or local issue that has national significance, can be tied to something that would necessitate the involvement of the DHS. Ergo, it means it is related to DHS indirectly, giving them “justification” to pursue the individuals further with monitoring and surveillance. The report further stated this:

“The Department of Homeland Security wants to track the comings and goings of journalists, bloggers and other “media influencers” through a database.”

That means monitor and track the movements of private citizens, Ladies and Gentlemen, as well as this:

“The database would be designed to monitor the public activities of media members and influencers by “location, beat and influencers,” the document says.”

That statement means to localize the reporter (his whereabouts and daily activities) and identify any links of communications he/she has socially…and graded in accordance with effect his reporting has (i.e., John Doe reports with only 5,000 readers, so he’s a “1,” whereas Jim Smith has an audience of 500,000, so he’s a “grade 3,” for example).

Do you know what this means? It’s completely out in the open. They’re telling us what is going to be done! Tracking comings and goings of journalists? Media members’ public activities will be monitored? Quote, by: “location, beat and influencers.”

Has the sound of a hunt to it, doesn’t it? Their spokesperson just told you the score while insulting you. The database already exists…they’re expanding it to include more people…to the tune of 290,000 news sources.

290,000 news sources! That will be complete monitoring of every single written word that comes across these screens, that is printed in the papers, and that is spoken on the radios and televisions. Think. Think about what has been reported in the recent past. Think about the FEMA and DHS ammo purchases…millions of rounds, and billions of dollars spent…taxpayer dollars, without taxpayer consent. Think of the many preparations and stockpiling of supplies by the government over the past decade. Think of the already shrinking alternative news media, and those who were either “shut up” or forced to cease reporting, such as Jesse Ventura, and Julian Assange.

As far as “conspiracy theories” go, they don’t care (at the moment) what you believe…as long as you don’t communicate it to another…until the day comes when they can “take care of” what it is that you believe…bring you into “right” thinking: first secure the herd, then each individual animal.

Now think where all of this is heading. One can deny it (passively or fervently); nevertheless, it doesn’t change the facts about all that has happened in the past 10 years right before your eyes. It has happened uncountable times in the past and it will happen again: a decline of society and loss of individual freedoms in the move toward totalitarianism. Such a prognostication is not one made against the odds, but with the odds…backed by thousands of years of human history to corroborate it. “1984” is right at your door.
