Cop Fires Pistol Inside Airport While Practicing ‘Quick Draw’

We’re told over and over again that police officers are highly trained professionals, who are sufficiently proficient with their weapons. However, many of them don’t seem to act that way. Being a great shot at the shooting range doesn’t necessarily mean that a cop isn’t a complete idiot.

Take 23-year-old Officer Brady Bratt from Des Moines, Iowa. Last Wednesday he admitted to his superior officer that he accidentally discharged his weapon in an airport. How did he manage to do that you might ask? Was there a friendly service dog nearby? Did someone call for help? No, not this time. He was merely practicing his quick draw skills.

You read that right. A police officer decided that it was completely appropriate to practice his quick draw, in an airport with a loaded gun. Apparently he “unknowingly had his finger on the trigger.” The bullet managed to pass through a hallway before it was stopped, and fortunately nobody was hurt.

It’s baffling to think that someone who is supposedly so highly trained would ever consider this a good idea. And yet, it kind of makes sense. After all, if you or I did this we would be thrown in jail without hesitation. This guy will probably just get a slap on the wrist and go back to work. It’s easy to be stupid when there aren’t any real consequences.

This is exactly why you never allow primates to handle firearms!

    • Joe sChmoe

Yes, because as the video shows, if you give primates a weapon, they go and give it to an ape.

That is my entire gripe with Political Correctness.

Ahhh. . . for the Good Old Days™ when you could backhand someone for being an idiot – that being about the only thing that made an impression on their tiny little minds. . .

I’m sorry but why was he practicing this at a airport?

This is something you practice on a range indoor or outdoor. Also you practice this in your home with the gun unloaded and snap caps.

The only time you use this is when The situation warrants it.

This is why law-enforcement federal state and local all need to qualify for times a year.

    Ban all airports

  • Given the clear statistical facts that police officers lead the accidental shooting, run along the bottom in marksmanship measures, and are more likely to commit suicide than most other gun owners, we should get over being surprised by ignorance and stupidity of those who are being tested for IQ by an increasing number of departments, which are refusing to hire officers with above average IQs. They don’t want officers that can, and so, will think about following orders.

For safety sake let me add that most negligent discharges involving QuickDraw training happen while trying to re-holster the weapon. Reholstering is not a race, but rather a slow deliberate movement to return a loaded firearm to its safe carry position.

He was 23 yrs old, he probably still lived with his mommy. @ 23 nowdays, they are too immature to be hired for law enforcement. Thanks to the progressives that run pretty much all aspects of education.

I’m so surprised. I would never expect a police officer to do something like this. They are trained to handle a firearm with care and respect. There must be some other explanation for this. The gun must be broken or defective. Or perhaps it was defective ammunition. The bullet could have experienced spontaneous combustion and went off on it’s own. Or somebody could have dropped it during the manufacturing process. Either way it couldn’t have been the police officer’s fault.
I hope he doesn’t get in trouble for it. He needs to get back to work because there are innocent civilians and their dogs that need to be shot by the police. And how is he going to do that if he is stuck on desk duty. Desk doody :-).

    • Reverend Draco

The cop was trained. . . but the gun wasn’t.
You know how an untrained gun can be – like an untrained hammer, they sometimes hurt people.

More than likely he carries a Glock which have only a safety on the trigger. He’s lucky he wasn’t another sad case of “Glock leg.”

That police officer needs to be discharged from service… He’s a menace to society….
