British Doctor Creates Acid-Proof Makeup To Protect From Attacks

A British doctor has created makeup to act as armor against the rising problem of acid attacks.

Dr. Almas Ahmed revealed the makeup at the Leeds International Festival Tuesday. She said it’s designed to protect the skin, so victims of an attack can rinse their faces with water to wash-off the acid.

Dr. Ahmed has worked on this for 10-years as the number of acid attacks in the U.K. are some of the highest per capita in the world. She said she wanted the makeup company to also be a form of employment for victims as some struggle to get jobs because of their physical appearance.

“I’ve created a makeup called Acarrier, and it’s a combination of the words acid barrier…the reason that I haven’t sold the idea to a large corporation is because I wanted to keep the price as cheap as possible, so people who live in countries like Latin America or India or Pakistan can afford makeup,” explained Dr. Ahmed.

The makeup line is set to launch in 2020, and will first be released in India and the Middle East as both have a high rate of acid attacks.
