Kate Steinle

A San Francisco jury found the illegal immigrant accused of killing Kate Steinle not guilty of murder Thursday, a stunning result in a case that ignited a nationwide debate over illegal immigration and sanctuary cities.

After five days of jury deliberation, Jose Ines Garcia Zarate, 54, was found not guilty on all counts, except for felony possession of a weapon. Zarate faced a charge of second-degree murder, but jurors were also instructed to consider first-degree murder and involuntary manslaughter.

At trial, Zarate admitted to firing the shot that killed Steinle, but the defense contended that the gun “went off” in his hands after he found it underneath a bench on the San Francisco pier. A ballistics investigation into the shooting revealed that the bullet skipped off the pavement before hitting Steinle, lending some credence to Zarate’s claims that the shooting was an accident.

The prosecution countered with evidence that the firearm, which had been stolen from a federal agent, required a firm pull of the trigger to fire, according to the San Francisco Chronicle. A forensics investigator also testified that Zarate had to have pointed the gun in Steinle’s direction for the bullet to follow the path it did.

A Mexican national, Zarate was a seven-time convicted felon and had been deported from the U.S. five times before the shooting. Just months before the shooting, Immigration and Customs Enforcement lodged an immigration detainer for Zarate with the San Francisco sheriff’s office, which declined the request.

In an interview with local media, Zarate said he had made his way to San Francisco because he knew he would be less likely to be deported because of the city’s sanctuary policies. The incident sparked a nationwide debate over sanctuary cities and later became a central theme of President Donald Trump’s campaign.

This summer, the House of Representatives passed a bill known as Kate’s Law, which would toughen penalties for illegal immgirants who have been deported and then illegally re-enter the country. The bill has not been taken up in the Senate.

Could it be that people who are not citizens cant be prosecuted under our court system. I mean how can they actually. They don’t have straw man. That is the loophole they may be finding.

……And of course, the man’s STELLAR past, upstanding values and chronic truthfulness is what demanded nothing less than the verdict handed down by the equally stellar, upstanding jury……….

  • YeahRightOkay

…common man…it wasn’t his fault…!!!…it was the gun that did it…!!!…he was just walking down the street when all of a sudden this Sig Sauer jumped up into his hand…!!!…and before he knew it the gun started firing on its own…!!!…and the only way he was going to stop it was to throw it in the bay…!!!…common man…everyone knows that guns have a mind of their own…!!!…it wasn’t this poor, uneducated, immigrant that did it…!!!…

So a 7 time convicted felon just so happens to find a federal agents gun under a bench. Who the hell would believe that. Steinle may have not been the intended target but he was definitely shooting at someone. My first question is who was the owner of that gun and under what circumstances was it stolen.

“A Mexican national, Zarate was a seven-time convicted felon and had been deported from the U.S. five times before the shooting.” That statement tells you everything you need to know. Why was this sonofabitch in our country and, more to the point, why wasn’t he locked up the first time he was caught? Deported five times and he still comes back? WTF?

The murder weapon was stolen from a federal agent. This means it was probably a Glock which has a really stiff trigger pull (it’s striker fired). This means that the muzzle has a tendency to move downward due to the force required to pull the trigger, and the weapon has a trigger safety. The perp was obviously unfamiliar with the weapon but there is NO WAY he fired it accidentally – the trigger must be pulled completely in order for the weapon to fire. The perp deliberately fired the weapon that he “found under a bench” (which is, in itself, suspicious as hell and affronts belief). The stench of bullshit is overwhelming as is the stink the verdict in this case.

You know who killed Kate Steinle? The United States Government, through depraved indifference.

he may have thought the safety was on, and since sig sauers don’t have a “safety”….

I guess the defense will be that the gun simply went off in my hands. Well darn… its the guns fault, not the murderer.

The judge, jury and lawyers were too busy planning what they were going to do in the next sodomite parade to be worried about justice. What would you expect from the land of fruits, nuts, socialists, sodomites and sexual perverts.

What a bunch of crap. This guy has a rap sheet a mile long, he’s been deported five times, and he keeps coming back and committing more crimes. Yet we’re supposed to believe that he just happened to find a stolen gun, and that it went off by accident and killed a woman?
He is a felon. He knows he is not supposed to have a gun. The fact that he picked it up is a crime in itself. And during the commission of this crime, he shot and killed someone. He is responsible for picking up the gun. And he is responsible for everything that happened as a result of him picking up that gun, assuming he did actually just find it, which I highly doubt.
He should have at least been found guilty of manslaughter or involuntary manslaughter, since it was his decision to pick up the gun that led to her death. Nobody can argue that he didn’t know there was an inherent risk in picking up that gun. Any intelligent person can reasonably conclude that picking up a gun you’ve never seen before is dangerous to everyone around you. How do you know if it’s loaded? How do you know if it’s in proper working order, or if it has some issue that causes it to go off too easily? Or if it’s been rigged to go off very easily?
They may not have been able to prove he shot her intentionally, but it should have been easy to prove he was guilty of gross negligence. He is a convicted felon who picked up a gun he’s never seen before, that he knows nothing about, and he pointed it in Kate’s direction. These are all things he decided to do. He didn’t trip and fall, and accidentally land on this gun that just happened to be laying on the ground causing it to go off. He purposely picked it up and pointed it at Kate.
I think this is so they can make sure that Kate’s law never gets passed, along with defending their criminal sanctuary cities where they hide felons, rapists, murderers, drug dealers, etc.
These sanctuary cities attract criminals who are hiding from the law. The type of people who use sanctuary cities are people who know that because of the crimes they are wanted for, crimes other than being here illegally, that it is likely that immigration officials and law enforcement are looking for them so they can deport them.
Not that every illegal alien does this, or that any illegal alien in a sanctuary city is also a wanted felon, but having a sanctuary city is going to attract criminals who are trying to avoid being deported because of their criminal records.
I don’t know why we still have these sanctuary cities. They are blatantly thumbing their nose at the law and hiding criminals who are a danger to society. And not just a “potential” danger, but an actual danger. And in many cases, these people have already committed crimes against other people.
These sanctuary cities are blatantly illegal, and it should not be difficult to arrest anyone responsible for it and charge them with obstruction of justice, among other things. Everyone, from the mayor on down, should be held accountable for their violation of the law. After a few mayors are thrown in jail, and an example is made of them, these sanctuary cities will be gone.
I suggest making a list of all the sanctuary cities, and give them a date by which they must comply with the law. Give them a couple weeks. And after that, arrest the mayor of any remaining cities not in compliance, along with any of the other city officials who went along with it.
These cities have become criminal organizations. And purging them from America is long overdue.
