Australia Begins Another Gun Confiscation Program, Because It Didn’t Work the First Time

When the topic of gun control comes up, the left loves to cite Australia and their much touted gun buyback program. They view that nation’s gun control measures as the perfect way to peacefully remove firearms from society. But did Australia’s gun buyback program really work? Sure it reduced gun crime (though whether or not it reduced all violent crime is up for debate), but did it truly disarm Australia’s criminal class?

Clearly not, because the Australian government is about to engage in another gun confiscation scheme. The government is planning a new amnesty program in July that will last three months, which the NRA is calling “a tacit admission that criminals and scofflaws have had little trouble circumventing Australia’s National Firearms Agreement (NFA) and the government’s confiscation effort.”

Somehow the government thinks that they’ll manage to convince people to give up between 260,000 and 600,000 illegal firearms. But obviously, these are mostly people who didn’t give up their firearms the first time, or they are criminals who again, aren’t going to give up their firearms just because the government asks nicely.

More importantly, the Australian government isn’t planning to pay their citizens for these firearms like they did in 1996. It’s one thing to ask criminals to hand over their weapons, but it’s quite laughable to ask them to give up their weapons for free. Of course, it seems that the government is at least somewhat aware that this program is mainly going to remove guns from the hands of law-abiding citizens. According to Australian Justice Minister Michael Keenan, who announced the amnesty program earlier this week,This is as much about giving a family a chance to get rid of an old heirloom as it is about getting rid of guns off our streets.”

This is the first gun amnesty program that applies to all of Australia since the 1996 gun buyback program. The violent crime rate in Australia appears to have no relationship with Australia’s first attempt at gun confiscation. Somehow how I doubt that this amnesty program will do anything except take guns away from law-abiding, and easily duped citizens. It certainly isn’t going to disarm criminals, which is obvious if you have a shred of common sense.

And the violent crime rate in the USA dropped by 50% in the same time frame.

    Uhhh, pretty crappy timing.
What with the Muslim thing and all..

    • jimmy joe

With an ever encroaching govt, if it is ANYTHING like here in amerika, muslims will be the least of their worry!! the real australians have no way of defending themselves against all the criminals, even the street punks!! Sounds ;like that is what the us govt wants to do!! Some people, er, sheeple, in this country, anyway, actually believe that the democans are the only ones the benefit from an unarmed populace, without once seeing the BIG PICTURE!!

IS Australia going to “have” another PORT ARTHUR MASSACRE or will they just “have” a few dozen “school shootings”; curious minds want to know.

“Throughout history – it has been true that the lone assassin has been behind many mass killings. But in recent times he has also been not so alone…….governments and intelligence agencies have been known to prey on and use simple and sometimes ill people to massacre innocent victims in order to gain greater control of the masses. Investigative journalist Joe Vaills has painstakingly put together the evidence that the young man, Martin Bryant, did not, if at all, act alone during the murderous rampage at Tasmania’s Port Arthur……in fact according to the video evidence, this was physically impossible.”

Was going to post the links to Joe Vialls but you beat me to it.

Keep on posting it! PORT ARTHUR was the first Mass murder to take the GUNS. It was awful and should be recognized by ALL as a STATE SPONSORED event AGAINST the people of Australia;just as are all the “school shootings” in the good ole USA.

Port Arthur showed the gun grabbers you cannot hire one of the best combat shooters in the world to kill for you at a public event. It was the genesis from which our “school shootings” and other public gun grabbing mass murders evolved.

Not all of them. The Chardon, Ohio was real and that is why they gave it little coverage because they could not control the witnesses and families and what they said. Agreed that the majority of them are though.

          • Lou

Yes not all “school shootings” are premeditated murder by those sanctioned by the deep state.

Characteristics of a REAL School (or public) Shooting

o “Shooter” is captured NOT DEAD after the event is over; a dead “shooter” is often a patsy,

o Few victims, many not DEAD

o Little news coverage; unless many DEAD

o Witnesses allowed to give detailed descriptions of “shooting”

            o NO Crisis Actors used

o Sandy Hoax was nothing BUT Crisis Actors

Australia Begins Another Gun Confiscation Program, Because It Didn’t Work the First Time…
Waste of time !! The law abiding citizen is already disarmed !! The criminals & other imported scums are not going to give their weapons ??
So it’s all bovine excrements coming from the authotity, to hide the rise in crime perpetrated by imported scums, a.k.a. “asylum seekers” ??

    • none

Worse than that. Now the imigrants from Seria will have to start making bombs! Just like in their homeland.

  • SP_88

The citizens of Australia should have known better the first time. This was never going to work. And it certainly won’t work this time either. And now they have the statistics to prove it.
Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result.
The only other explanation is that they are doing this on purpose to disarm the people. I believe that they are fully aware that this will have no effect on crime rates, but they don’t care because lowering crime rates is not what their goal is. They are simply disarming everyone a little at a time.
And this is what the gun grabbers in America want to do. They think that we are stupid enough to not realize what a miserable failure the gun confiscation in Australia was. They claim that it was a success, and that it lowered crime rates.
They seem to forget that we have access to information, news and statistics that clearly shows what a failure their gun confiscation was. Not to mention the fact that we could have predicted that it wouldn’t have worked the first time, and it won’t work this time either, because criminals do not obey the law. Anyone with so much as a blip of brain activity could have told you that this is a waste of time and it won’t work. The only people who will be effected are the law abiding citizens.
If you outlaw guns, only outlaws will have guns. This isn’t just a witty saying passed around by people who like guns. It is an absolutely true statement.
And I guarantee that this isn’t the last gun confiscation that will happen in Australia. They are going to keep doing it until every single citizen is completely disarmed, and only the police, military and criminals will have guns. And the law abiding citizens will pay dearly for that mistake.

The pathetic weakling citizens of Australia deserve what they get.

Didn’t the rate of gun-related violent crime actually INCREASE after the Australian buy-back program was implemented? I vaguely remember reading this, but can’t remember where.
As always with Progressive Liberals, facts have no relevance in the pursuit of their grandiose objectives, to include a subjugated and passifist populace. Oh, the dreams of a perfect human utopia abound, yet the realities of human nature and behavior (self-interest and self-preservation) are a persistent impediment to realizing this dream. When will the citizens learn that Liberals only have the best interests of the soon-to-be subjugated populace in mind.

  • Jimmy Yost

I can well imagine that after having experienced the first go around that the Australian people won’t fall for it this time. Hopefully not anyway, for their sake.
