Amish Man Sentenced To Six Years In Prison For Not Seeking FDA Approval

Kentucky — “I am not a creation of state/government, as such I am not within its jurisdiction.”

Those words were written by Samuel Girod in a document filed in a Kentucky federal court in June. Girod is an Amish farmer who was convicted in March of selling herbal health products that, as reported by the Lexington Herald-Leader on Friday, “were not adequately labeled as required by federal law.”

According to the government, the Amish man broke the law by growing, processing, and bringing to market his own herbal supplements without FDA approval. US News reported that Girod manufactured salves and skin treatments, one of which the FDA claims could be harmful to the skin. He also claimed one extract could help cure cancer, which the FDA disputed. In 2013, Giron ignored orders from the FDA to stop selling his products.

Nevertheless, he rejected the notion that he deserved six years in prison for being at odds with the federal agency (which, itself, approves numerous dangerous drugs).

“I do not waive my immunity to this court,” Girod, who represented himself during the trial, told Judge Danny Reeves during his sentencing hearing early Friday morning. “I do not consent,” he added, emphasizing the fact he according to his faith, he doesn’t recognize the authority of the court — only that of his higher power.

Judge Reeves then sentenced Girod to six years in prison.

“They created a felon today out of a good, law-abiding citizen,” said Arizona sheriff and civil rights activist Richard Mack following the sentencing. Mack, along with a group of Girod supporters, had gathered outside the Kentucky courthouse Friday morning to await Judge Reeves’ ruling.

“This is a national disgrace and outrage. He is being punished for being stubborn,” Mack stated, adding that he and other activists will press President Donald Trump to issue Girod a pardon.

Samuel Girod’s “stubbornness” was also on Judge Reeves’ mind on Friday. Reeves said the Kentucky farmer brought all the trouble on himself “because he steadfastly refused to follow the law.”

Remarking on the severity of a sentence for selling simple plant-based remedies, Michael Fox, who served as a standby attorney for Girod, pointed out Friday that the punishment for this individual will be harsher than it would be for others:

“Keep in mind that Sam Girod is Amish. He does not live with electricity, phones, concrete, steel. Those are not normal; those are not natural in his life. An incarceration in a prison setting is going to be more punishment for him than a normal person.”

Liberty languishes in it’s death throes before our very eyes. The government doesn’t trust the citizens with the free exercise of their liberties and exemplifies it through the creation of insane numbers of insane laws and regulations which inhibit the active participation of ordinary citizens in a true, capitalist free market. Those who decry capitalism have likely never really seen it. The crony capitalist system in use today has arisen as a result of government interference and tampering in order to further the aims and interests of giant corporations and through the influence of particular industries. In turn, government agents and agencies have benefitted mightily from their nefarious table setting for their financial benefactors. Mr. Girod is being punished for more than his stubbornness. He’s being punished for defying the power of the state and for straying into the lane of a protected industry who won’t tolerate any kind of outside interference. Too bad the Amish are separatists and pacifists. They could be powerful allies to the Patriot movement.

The dialect is this, Republicans(thesis),Democrats(antithesis) libertarians (synthesis) they are just a third party to the corruption , libertarians in Congress are helping to remove consumer protections . The Koch brothers and other conservative elites coopted them during the occupy movement days.

The Constitution does not authorize a Food and Drug Administration. Libertarians oppose all unconstitutional fedgov activities.

If a “law” is at odds with Natural law and self ownership, it is evil, and should not exist. The hypocrisy of this kangaroo court “judge”, is a slap in the face to humanity and liberty. The judge is the one deserves to be locked up.

Then lock him up. Maybe someone will want to trade his freedom for the Amish man’s freedom.

“They created a felon today out of a good, law-abiding citizen,” !! This shit happens on a daily basis partner!! How many good, “law” abiding amerikans are locked up for using their own medication in the form of other plants, for instance, bud??? This republic is dissolving into a real shit-hole!!

If you want the law respected, you must first make it respectable.

“You may not make and sell that” is apparently not respectable enough, especially from a horde of government bureaucrats that don’t really know what they’re doing and are intent on babysitting a nation of free citizens.

  • anonymous4u4me

The FDA should not exist period. 99% of all govt agencies should be abolished and not exist also. Is this the same FDA that a few months ago would not list the cheese companies that had distributed tainted cheese, because it would hurt business? Is it not their job to protect the public before protecting business? Piss on the FDA but not if they are on fire, however if you have just drank kerosene or gasoline piss until every drop is on them.

  • renee ciccioni

Of course big pharma owns the FDA.

    • DavidMacko

Almost all government regulatory agencies eventually become the property of the people whom they were designed to control.

So basically, the FDA, a government agency that approves dangerous drugs on a daily basis, has ensured that an Amish man will go to jail for selling what I’m sure are all natural supplements because he didn’t properly label them? This is pretty much the definition of tyranny.
According to the FDA, such products are supposed to have a label that says: This product is not intended to diagnose, treat or cure any disease or illness. Basically, they want you to say that it doesn’t work unless you go through the very expensive process of FDA testing and drug trials, etc. It’s a way of protecting the profits of big Pharma. It’s not about public safety, as they claim, since big pharmaceutical companies who have paid their dues are allowed to produce and distribute some very dangerous drugs who’s side effects are much more profound than any benefit they might have, which they quite often do not. Many vaccines come to mind.
People get vaccinated and frequently they have side effects that can be uncomfortable at best, life threatening at worst, and many times they still end up catching the disease they were just vaccinated against. Most of the people who don’t catch something they were vaccinated against were simply lucky enough to not come in contact with it.
However, the supplements this man was selling could be much safer and more effective than anything big Pharma pushes on us if all they did was give a minor improvement without any side effects.
What happened here was big Pharma sent their goons over to this guy’s operation so they could break up his business and keep him from cutting in on their profits.
    Follow the money.

He was selling a quack “cure” for cancer, among other things.

      • skippy1

Chemotherapy and radiation are “quack cures” for cancer. Many natural foods/herbs have a positive effect on cancer cells.

    • elfmom55

The DEA is going after Kratom again. It is a natural amazing pain killer and good for many other issues. DEA is under the control of the Medical Mafia and they WILL make it illegal. Just a matter of time as Kratom is really putting a huge dent in their profits.

  • I am at war

Uh-huh. Gonna beg the same government which just threw the man in prison to let him out of prison.

    Brilliant strategy.

How come nobody ever thought of it before?

And naturally it happens in a shit-ass backward fuck-hole state like Kentucky. Fuck Kentucky !!! Break him out of prison and put war on Kentucky !!! BULLSHIT !!!

  • This is the kind of “justice” (and worse, much worse) you can expect when man replaces the Bible’s juridical system based upon Yahweh’s perfect law and altogether righteous judgments (Psalm 19:7-11) with his own man-made capricious traditions–like the constitutional framer did in the upper room in Philadelphia in 1787:

“…According to Habakkuk [1:7, 11], not only did the Chaldeans’ authority originate with themselves, but so did their justice. And so does the justice of WE THE PEOPLE: “WE THE PEOPLE of the United States, in order to form a more perfect union, establish justice….” What an audacious assertion. Only Yahweh is just, and only He can establish justice:

‘Justice and judgment are the habitation of thy [Yahweh’s] throne: mercy and truth shall go before thy face.’ (Psalm 89:14)….

“Anytime autonomous man attempts to establish justice outside Yahweh’s moral laws, the result is always injustice. In Isaiah 5:20, this transposition is depicted as calling good evil and evil good. The word “autonomous” comes from two Greek words: auto meaning self and nomos meaning law. The word, which literally means “self-law,” is just another way of describing humanism and, in this instance,
    constitutionalism….

“Justice is defined as “the quality of being just; righteousness, equitableness, or moral rightness.”60 This is a perfect description of Yahweh and His law, particularly from the perspective found in Isaiah 33:22 and James 4:12 that there is only one lawgiver and judge. All law, righteousness, equity, morality, truthfulness, and justice originate with and emanate from Him. None of this exists outside Yahweh and His law, and it all existed long before 1787. Because the Constitution did not uphold Yahweh’s lawfulness, righteousness, and justice, it established lawlessness, unrighteousness, and injustice. Christian Constitutionalists recognize this in regard to any other false god. Their unwillingness to apply the same criterion to WE THE PEOPLE is evidence that WE THE PEOPLE is indeed a god to them….”

When YHVH permitted His people to place a king over themselves, He stated that this king should neither add to the Law which He had given them, nor take away from it.
Their authority came entirely from Him, and they were not permitted to replace His Law with theirs.
Thus we see that any legal statute of man which requires a man to label his product is illegitimate in God’s eyes.
Truly it was said that the entire world lies in the power of the evil one.
Man is in rebellion against his Creator.
And in due time he will be judged for this, and found wanting.

  • DavidMacko

218 Congressmen, 51 Senators and President Trump can abolish the Food and Drug Administration. Five out of nine of the Supreme Court justices can correctly rule that it is unconstitutional. 218 Congressmen or 51 Senators acting alone can defund it for two years. Lets always provide solutions whenever problems, especially horrible ones such as unjust imprisonment are discussed.

  • David McElroy

The court goes out of its’ way to punish a harmless Amish farmer for his old-fashioned herbal remedies not being labeled per FDA laws, but allows high-ranking government people to behave like lawless criminals that even murder people, sexually abuse children, and steal billions of tax dollars without so much as a whimper of complaint. There is no justice in America!

  • rouge1

There is room for everybody in prison it’s not just for criminals anymore.

  • BR549

“Reeves said the Kentucky farmer brought all the trouble on himself ‘because he steadfastly refused to follow the law.'”

No, Girod is in jail because he refused to listen to Reeves the Almighty.

  • Gregory Alan of Johnson

About the only thing left is challenge those with the guns/badges to become cold-blooded murderers by demanding they either shoot us dead or leave us alone.
Girod was unlawfully “arraigned” “tried” “convicted” and “sentenced” without contract.
Girod was living by Sui Juris. This is yet another reason for the municipal corporations at all levels to be dissolved.

  • Gregory Williams

Girod seems to have been as harmless as a dove but not as wise as a serpent. I will talk about this and several of the comments made below on the radio show tomorrow. There are some good comments below but people are missing some very important pieces of the puzzle. While Girod may have not been a child of the state he is selling to many children of the state whose health is managed and paid for by the State. We are not only told not to eat at the table of the state but to seek the kingdom of God and His righteousness. Don’t get me wrong I think he should go free but I think he has a poor strategy that could be a lot better. http://www.preparingyou.com/wiki/Broadcast

  • MrPuzzleBox

His legal argument should have also contained the objection that the FDA has no constitutional legal authority in the several states – itself being a federal agency. This is a well-settled matter of law that people continuously omit to make in their pleadings. Let me show you the solution. I’ve nicknamed it “Silk-Road II — New & Greatly Improved”: G00GLE “OpenBazaar” and then “ZeroCoin”. And so Fukk your local/federal/national government…
